USB Floppy Disk Drive RAID Array Under OS X
ohlssonvox writes "I believe this is the first USB Floppy Disk Drive RAID; I have never heard of any others. It was done using OS X. I would like to share this with the world. The world must know the power of USB FDD RAID!!! This is NOT an April fools joke, I just happen to be fool enough to make this on April fools." -
ARCADE: Blinkenlights with Tetris
BorrisYeltsin writes "The guys from blinkenlights are doing it again, but this time in France on a 26x20 display, for 11 nights at the "Bibliotheque nationale de France" in Paris. This time instead of pong you get to play tetris on this 520 pixel display. Again they need your animations for the project." -
Perl 6 Compiler for Parrot Out
BorrisYeltsin writes "The Parrot project has just released a functional compiler for Parrot. Almost all of the previous Apocalypses have been implemented as well as some other toys, including but not limited to: Ruby and Python parsers, BASIC and Scheme interpreters and a Forth compiler, the team are now working on Perl 6 regexes. Check it out at cvs.perl.org." -

Ban on Internet Taxes to Expire
slacknet writes: "Well, it looks like the government could be lifting the ban on taxes related to the Internet, CNN reports here. While the House of Representatives has already passed a two-year extension on the ban, the Senate has not. Newsbytes.com also has an article on this matter here. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks this probably isn't the best time economically to be discussing any sort of additional taxes." I think Newsbytes has it right - the federal ban is likely to be reinstated soon, they just didn't get around to it this week. -
The Way Things Work?
kcarnold asks: "I have an old CD called David Macaulay: The Way Things Work, and though it is quite interesting, it is significantly dated for today's rapidly changing technology world (Minimum system requirements are 386SX or higher, 4 MB RAM, Windows 3.1), and its theme is quite childish. I'm looking for a Web site (or maybe a software program) that is basically an updated version of this. The Way Things Work described, of course, how stuff works, but today physical stuff isn't the whole picture -- describing how software, the Internet, etc. works would also be quite helpful. Yes I'm sure us geeks know how every conceivable contraption works already, but it's quite possible that there exist humans that do not have such thorough knowledge of today's technology. Any pointers to resources that could enlighten them (and maybe some of us too)?" Interesting idea. Are there other pieces of software along these lines?
