Re:Meanwhile in America
The transgender bathroom moral panic goes to show how malleable, or in this case ductile American public opinion is.
A tempest in a teapot and no doubt. Transgenders pretty much just want to be left alone, and given that in women's toilets - at least in America, there are stalls. No one even knows.
And it's a pretty safe bet that most of us have made tinkle in a rest room at the same time as someone who has changed gender. We just didn't know it at the time.
I wonder if the red states are going to have a pecker prodder or peen inspector appointed so that God's will is served? Imagine, they want this person to use a men's room : http://www.aceshowbiz.com/imag...
I'm envisioning a bunch of good old fundies getting together in a scene reminiscent to the witch trial in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
In fact, here is North Carolina 5 years from now, as they purify themselves. https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Re:Wowee
Well, there's more of them to choose from.
And women's standards for acceptable conduct have changed, so more of them consider standing in front of a camera for money an acceptable practice.
And technology for manipulating their looks, in makeup and exercise physiology and software, has improved.
And photographers have learned from decades of research by the pioneers of Playboy how to make someone look better than they generally do.
And women have learned from the same sources what men really like them to look like.
It's unlikely that the median or average have changed much. But the selection, presentation, and manipulation are much more refined.
As an example of presentation and manipulation, but not so much selection, I give you Katy Perry. With and without her cloaking device turned on.

Re:Flawed Analogy?
Fashion is an interesting case because it's exempted from copyright laws
Actually, it's not completely exempt because there have been numerous cases of copyright in the fashion industry. For example, Van Halen suing Nike over a criss-cross pattern on a line of sneakers Nike produced. Anthropologie has sued Forever 21 (see below for a separate case) over copyright infringement for nine garments. We also have Diane von Furstenberg suing Target (see separate case below) for copyright infringement as well as other issues.
There is the case of jewelry company Merit Diamond Corp that sued Samuels Jewelers and Rogers Jewelers because their design of certain pieces of their jewelry was copies of Merit's. A similar case involved Tacori vs Beverly Jewelry Company Ltd for copyright infringement of ring designs.
Most lawsuits in the fashion industry revolve around trademark and patent infringement such as the case against Paris Hilton, Coach vs. Target and Trovata vs Forever 21.
However, to prove your point about the fashion industry and copyright, see this article from the NY Times from March which talks about this very subject. -
the eol question is the biggest issue we face...
the whole healthcare issue hinges not only on how do we pay for it, but how much do we pay for? last week's lawNorder:svu ep http://www.aceshowbiz.com/tv/episodeguide/law_order_special_victims_unit_s11_e13/ dealt directly with treating a 4mo-premie that _could_ be saved but _probably_ would be a blind vegetable...and unfortunately beliefs don't deal well with probabilities:-(
just because we have the technology, does that mean we _must_ use it? who pays? the religious right objects to paying for abortions, but demands that all life must be preserved @ all cost:-{sounds ironically like "from each.../to each..." don't it?-}
i think sjg's noma is inaccurate: _politics_ is the intersection of religion & science...

Re:Latter Canceled. Need New Avenues.
Keep in mind that Harrison Ford turned down a Han Solo spinoff and opted instead for Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (with a fifth shaping up).
So he was offered to ruin Han Solo and instead opted for ruining Indiana Jones. This is probably the saddest story I have ever heard.

Latter Canceled. Need New Avenues.
We want sequels to Return of the Jedi. Wasn't he originally going to do 3 sets of trilogies: with the 3rd set later on, and the only common characters would be the 2 droids?
Yes, those were the initial plans. Although there was a very important if in their plans. From what I've heard through rumors, Lucas had two trilogies he could tell and he picked the stronger of the two (prequels) to do first. If that was financially successful and well received then he would continue with the sequels. I think this strategy changed with the release of the first or second episode and the latter sequel was canceled altogether.

I don't want later sequels. If anything is done in the Star Wars universe, I want the Timothy Zahn Trilogy done as three movies. Thrawn is badass. I want a TV series that takes stories like the "Tales" series of SW books and brings them to life.
Personally I think the characters in Episodes I, II and III were so weak that we need new characters that aren't supposed to fulfill some other plot line's obligations.
