Google previews are available
with a Firefox plugin, which has existed for quite some time and doesn't require you to move the mouse over the binoculars making for more productive use. The extension also works with Yahoo! search and has screenshots for a lot more sites than ask.com currently has.

Firefox Extension
There's a Firefox extension that adds preview images to search results.

GoogleX was Better
I want them to bring back GoogleX
Originaly over at Google Labs GoogleX page it got mirrored over at Tech Info Blog who has it in all its glory.
I want to see that one put into place. New changes are rather ... Um ... new.
Next they need to add Thumbnails. Besides they have the power to take a pretty little picture. Heavily optomize it. Have a cookie setting to turn it off and they will be instantly accused of copying of copying ASK.com.
Considering that the interface hasn't changed in a long time this might be fun. -
Re:Firefox extensions I can't live without
From http://ackroyd.de/googlepreview/:
If you only see gray borders next to the search results, you probably configured Firefox to load images from the originating web site only (goto Tools->Options->Web Features->Load Images and turn off 'load images from originating web site only') -
here is a short list:

Re:this is awesome
This is a nice to that makes a "Compose GMail" option when you click a mailto: link.
This is the GMail Notifier that I think the parent was referring to. It displays the simple text "Gmail" at the bottom right of the browser window by the down button on the scroll bar. Hovering over it displays the number of unread emails, single clicking it opens gmail in a new tab, and double clicking lets you add, change, ir remove gmail login info. You should know that Google has blocked this program at least twice before so don't be alarmed if it stops working, just keep an eye on the webpage for a newer version.
Also, another neat google plugin displays a thumbnail to the left of many search results. It too displays the simple text "GP" near the bottom right scroll button. Single click it to turn it on and off again.
If you still have that invite, I could use one. My friend just finished his tour of duty in the air force and a bit jealous that I have a gmail account and he doesn't.
