Re:But how cheap can they get it?
If you want superlight insulation, you can already buy Aerogel in bulk quantities. It's not exactly cheap, but it's not completely outrageous either.

Re:Remember Aerogel?
While aerogel might not be ubiquitous, it is certainly available commercially. Take for example: this company. They sell aerogel insulation for housing. My research on it suggests to me that it's not exactly cost-effective compared to traditional insulation, but its thinness makes it valuable for certain situations such as behind masonry.

Re:Aerogel For the rest of us?
It's a shame that we still have to search through the information stored in publically accessible networked computers one page at a time trying to find useful information. Maybe someday some clever person will put together a utility that allows us to "search" this "inter-network" to glean the useful information on a single topic at a given time. Alas, such a feat would require tremendous resources and development effort and may never see the light of day in our lifetime.
On an unrelated topic, while visting the fun random-link generator website www.google.com (you probably haven't heard of it before), I came upon some interesting Aerogel related sites (like aerogel.com, I know, a non-obvious domain name). -

Maybe Not So Expensive
Can't remember where I read about them, but Aspen Aerogels claims to have greatly reduced the price of making aerogels.

InsulationThis stuff was used on Mars missions to capture particles so I thought it would be really expensive stuff. No way that you would ever be able to afford enough of it to actually insulate your house, even though it is 39 times better at it than the best fiberglass insulation.
Upon seaching Google for the cost of this stuff I ran across Aerogel Super-Insulation made by Aspen Aerogels. They don't have prices on their sites but it looks like somebody is trying to make an insulation product out of it. It says they are trying to break into the 20 billion dollar insulation market and that mass adoption of the product would greatly reduce fossil fuel use around the world.
