MS Office on Linux (Continued)
GeeWiz writes "According to the German Heise Newsticker, the c't editors got hold of information that confirms that Microsoft has assigned 37 developers with the task of porting Office to Linux. " Try using Babelfish to translate the article to english if your Deutsch ist nicht so gut. -
KDE 1.1 preview out
The German Linux site is reporting that the first KDE 1.1 alpha preview has been released. Now, since I do not personally use KDE, this might only be a snapshot like E DR-0.15 was. However the source files are marked alpha 1. This new release contains more apps, a Mac Style, and an improved integrated web-browser. English speakers can also see the German Linux site in English. German readers might like to participate in the Christmas Quiz (nice prizes). -
Humour Quickies
frokost writes "After searching for "Linus Torvalds" on AltaVistas Photo Finder, I ended up with links to several pictures of, well.. Linus Torvalds. I clicked a "Visually Similar"-link, and ended up with this page. It seems like Bill and Linus aren't that different after all ;-) " Someone whose name got lost by my Netscape 4.04 crashing again came across this support incident today. And finally, the denizens of Castle Slashdot are slowly recovering after an angry peasant mob stormed their home by surprise yesterday. -

Electric Monk and Alta Vista
Farrell McGovern wrote in to tell us about Electric Monk. Basically, it is/was a nice search engine that took natural language as input, and searched AltaVista. Well, recently it seems that AltaVista started rejecting their referrals. I'm at odds with this- anyone ever look at AltaVista.Com? It It's not The Real AltaVista, but rather a front end that someone else was selling ad space on. Ages ago it used to be barely noticable that it wasn't the real thing, and I found that bordering on offensive, but Electric Monk really one upped the original interface. What do you guys think?
