    If you want one, just buy one.

    Why should the government buy you a station? If they are going to put up stations, they'll just put up their own wherever they want them. Why give you a grant so you can have your own weather station, unless you're some kind of weather guru, in which case you probably already bought your own.

    The administration on a government grant program alone would cost more than the station, its installation and maintenance. This is a voluntary program of citizens working to help a portion of the government help other citizens. For practical access, go to Weather Underground. They both promote the NOAA program and publish the values from participating stations.

    The Davis Vantage models are great and reasonably priced, compared to a year of Starbucks, say, and there are other usable less expensive types available.
    Ambient Weather sells stations and software. I have no financial connection with them, other than buying stuff from them. They helped a weather noob (moi) get a system that works well for me. And, yes, I participate in the uploads.

    yes but the big difference there is that many people dont know radio exists outside of AM/FM/XM is and and crank weather radios are available much much cheaper. At the $99 price listed it seems more like your buying one for yourself and 4 for children in Rawanda.

    Compare that one for instance, its smaller, far more portable, nicer looking and has more features...for $19. The laptop program though has a product I cant find...a crankable laptop fast enough for basic email and surfing with mesh capability at a price cheaper than an average pda. (even at the double price mentioned for "buyers".)

    Guess you folks in the US are slightly behind in this respect, but out here in Asia, the shift to portable movies has already happened. Most office-goers around me spend time on their morning commute watching video on their PDA's, smart-phones, DVD players and portable media players, mostly by some creative re-rendering

    Essentially, don't think "Britney Spears' new video", or "Sin City", but "the latest Smallville episode".

    If your question is at all serious, there are products that you can use.

    For instance, The CarChip.

    My personal belief is vehement opposition to this kind of monitoring. Nevertheless, it is available. If she's driving a car you own, you can install it without any problem. If the car is hers, you might want to check with an attorney before installing any monitoring/spying equipment.
