Re:Maximizing copyright != maximizing producers
[Washington broke no law because] through several wars our own sovereignty was proven.
British sovereignty wasn't fully repealed until October 19, 1781. Likewise, if I violate a paracopyright or extended copyright today, it's still illegal even if the Congress repeals the Bono Act and DMCA tomorrow.

Re:Take it from the military.
No, just lazy. Why should I educate you? Here is a Wikipedia article on France's military involvement in the Revolutionary War, a direct, and I feel, unarguable contradiction to your assertion that no standing army was involved on the American side. A second source is here, lest you attack me over Wikipedia's credibility. Also, the Americans were organized into the Continental Army which you could say was not officially "standing," since it was formed specifically to fight in the war, but it was a government run army.

Re:Spirit of '76 and copyright.But it seems to me that the original image is in the public domain, and therefore any faithful copy may be published without need for permission from anyone.
The painting was first exhibited at the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition of 1876.
But finding a "faithful copy" presents something of a challenge. Williard painted at least four versions, and there are countless lithographs, etc. Spirit of '76

Re:Prior ArtHow about this automated challenge from 200 years ago? Control-F to find "blanket coat", about 1/3rd down.
In this case, a hostile sender (rebel snipers) was challenged by a nonhuman (sentry sculpture). The challenge to that action was sent back (the visiting officer was shown the attacked device), so such unthinking actions would be removed and only real activity would arrive (shooting at sentries would be stopped, as all it does is injure one of an endless supply of sentries -- sentries should only be attacked in order to remove them during a full attack).

Re:Mailblocks been around since 2002?
There is evidence of prior use of challenge/response in the USA. I'm sure it is the anti-machine tech which is in the patent, although that would be a moving target due to constant research in giving computers abilities similar to humans (even ignoring simple solutions by spammers), so a concept would have to be what is patented.

Re:What a waste of questions.
As far as I'm concerned, your French should be bowing down to America on a daily basis..
To a large extent, America owes its independence to French assistance during the Revolution as this history attests:
Throughout the war France dealt liberally with the colonies. She had driven no hard bargain, when she promised them her aid; if it had not been for French assistance, the army of Washington would have disbanded because the states were unable or unwilling to raise the money to supply the needs of the soldiers; had it not been for the assistance of the French army and fleet, Yorktown would not have been taken.Perhaps it is you who should be bowing down on a daily basis.
