I don't get it
Asetek specifies a Rth of 0.124 K/W for the 570LC. While official values are hard to find, for a high end air cooler like the NH-D14, frostytech found 11.2 K rise above ambient for 125 W, which is 0.09 K/W - with (slow) stock fans. So you'll need a 240mm cooler like the H100, which is only slightly better, or something like the EPIC 180, which is not available standalone, to get better than air cooling. Or you can strap more powerful fans on the NH-D14, which is what I did.
There must be a reason why I have never seen an air vs liquid cooler comparison. -
Re:The money quote
"In every cooler we tested, the pump noise was actually louder than the fans when the CPU was idling."
Apparently they didn't test the Corsair H50, the pump is quiet, very quiet once the coolant gets going. The fan on the other hand sounds like a jet taking off all the damn time. The sealed unit coolers have gotten better without a doubt in the last couple of revisions, the H60 was much quieter, the h70 was much cooler the H80 had more function and better cooling and was even quieter, and so on. Same followed with the Antec series, though to point out they're both made by the same company Asetek I believe.
This isn't to mention the warranty either. Both Antec and Corsair have been covering CPU's, GPU's(some people like me use their watercoolers on their videocards too, on their products if the watercoolers fail. I had a H80 fail and it took my 560ti with it, corsair covered it and sent a check along with a replacement unit. EVGA sent a replacement card even though I was fully upfront with what I was doing. You know, for that these guys(EVGA and Corsair) have a lifetime customer for that, it was an aftermarket mod but they covered it anyway. The money if anyone is wondering went to the foodbank.
If you're short on cash and looking for a way to make your system quieter that with a set of whirly birds, these things can really help but they do have some serious limitations. You need to calculate exactly how much heat you're going to have to dissipate. But as it stands, if you have the money to drop on custom blocks, tanks and a pump it's still the better way to go. Besides at the $200/block price that some of these places charge, it's almost cheaper to get the dimensions yourself go find a CNC op at some metal shop and have them mill and smooth out a slop of copper for you.

The company is asetek. http://www.asetek.com/

Re:Proper case ducting...
You bet. But again, Macs ain't cheap. Here is a company that sells a similar product for a generic PC (the Micro):

Vapo Chill more likely
I would think stuff like VapoChill would be more likely. The biggest drawback of watercooling is that it well... uses water. Installation is still less than easy for vapochill, but I expect that to be something that can be made much easier, and besides, most people don't ever touch their CPU anyway. That's another thing, you can set this up and ship it, but you probably wouldn't want to do that with a watercooling system. Also, if companies are going to invest in this sort of thing, the longest lasting solution should be sought. Watercooling is better than aircooling (usually) but even it will hit a wall fairly quickly, because it still uses room temperature to cool the CPU. Vapochill keeps the processor -20 C to 20 C, and there's room for improvement on that with better refrigerant tech.

Watercooling
...simple as that. Go get a decent Watercooling setup and a , and you've got an (almost) silent PC.

Re:What value are these new processors?
Anyway, I always tend to stay back from the cutting edge as the heat generated is too vast to be cooled silently. When the cutting edge chips become the average ones the cores have gone through a few changes so run cooler.
That is what cases like the VapoChill are for. I just tried to go to the web page and it didn't respond for some reason (mayhapps someone already mentioned them in here making them slashdot'ed? Mahapps a huge meteor fell on their web servers.. Or mayhapps even the dreaded Chubacobra (SP?) has chewed all the ethernet cables between myself and afore mentioned web servers.... Dunno, I haven't read through all of the posts yet)... Anyway..
Nice, cool, more silent than 60 80mm 7,000,000,000 RPM fans in your gigantic, waaaay too large for the use of the computer, heavily modded case..
I'm rambling now...
*pop of pill* Ahhh.. Good ol' ridlin.... *drool*
