More Bioware For Linux?
GNious writes "Bioware has a thread about porting the upcoming game Dragon Age to Apple Mac OS X and/or Linux. Debate include such topics as porting houses, physics engines and the value of the market, with an enormous amount of requests for such games as Neverwinter Nights 2. With the potential for selling upwards of 1000 copies (counting individual requests) of a game at possibly $50 each, is the decision to exclude a platform and the associated revenue the correct one, or are the petitioners the ones that have gotten it wrong to think that their ca 1-5% marketshare matters?" I think the unfortunante reality is that in today's gaming market, you find that fewer people are willing to take a chance on the sales for these smaller markets -- too hard to predict revenue, and too hard to (some would say) to do the porting. -
Atari Hints At Plans For Baldur's Gate 3, NWN 2?
Deekin_Scalesinger writes "Seems Atari may have let the cat out of the bag when one of their staff mentioned upcoming sequels for both the Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights series in a posting on the official Atari forums. No ETA posted for either title, but any news is good news when it comes to Forgotten Realms games..." In related news, the Czech games magazine SCORE has its latest cover online, claiming Baldur's Gate III: Seven Gates Of Aznarr as the title, and back in the Atari forums, the spokesperson also notes: "Atari is the sole licensor of all D&D interactive properties. We could bring back Gold Box games if we were so inclined." -
Epic Cracking Down On UT2K4 Cheaters Already
qasimodo writes "Gamespot.com is reporting that Epic has banned the first cheater from Unreal Tournament 2004. You can read the thread explaining this on the official Atari forums for the game. DrSin, one of Epic's programmers started the thread as a warning to fellow users, and so far everybody seems to be happy. I agree with that, we need to stop the cheaters before they ruin every game out there. But the question remains: How can they stop them completely? Surely, script kiddies will just stop and go somewhere else, but how about the guys who write all the tools? They won't stop so easily." Elsewhere, nerdb0t points to an ACM Queue editorial on the subject of cheating in online games, arguing: "Perhaps game developers don't realize they're enabling roving gangs of sociopaths who are effectively destroying the virtual world the developers have worked so hard to create." -
Unreal University Impressions
Demondo writes "Well the first annual Unreal University weekend is over, and based on the numerous pictures, videos, and impressions people are giving it seems that Epic Games, 3DBuZZ / Mastering Unreal, and the sponsors (Center for Digital Entertainment and nvidia) have pulled it off quite successfully. I just hope that I can go next year." -
