BackBase also supports the Back button.

Well, Here We Go
Well, the AJAX wars have started, and M$ maybe just got off the first shot. We'll see. With http://www.morfik.com/'s public beta just around the corner the RAD IDE AJAX tools are finally coming on scene. We'll see what people can do with these tools, and whether AJAX is REALLY as overrated as some are claiming. Personally I'll bet that once people can get their hands on tools that let them build web apps as easily as they can desktop apps (and unplug them, i.e. run them locally or over the 'net, as you can with Morfik) you'll see a huge increase in web applications.
The number of AJAX tools that are on their way is staggering. http://www.tersus.com/ is one designed for the absolute noob, and http://www.backbase.com/ is also a potential option. -
So.... this is newsworthy?
Sorry, but I've been using the Backbase library for a while and Yahoo's stuff just isn't even close. I feel like I'm reading a thread about the benefits on attaching stone wheels to a wooden cart.
As I was glancing through the Yahoo docs I kept wondering... where is the XPath support for selecting objects, can I create HTML templates for my own custom controls, does it include lots of sample code/demos/pdf tech docs?
Also, what about a full-featured client-side debugger so I can see a history of AJAX calls (request/response), the current DOM tree in memory, and test out XPath queries and see the results?
Not even close... not even close... -
Re:windows onlyI think this is a normal price tag for such tools...
;) For ClearNova ThinkCAP you're going to pay 2'500 USD for the workbench, and the server edition costs you 15'000 USD. Morfik does not even have pricing information yet at all.Backbase does though have a so called community edition, which is free of charge for non commercial purposes.*
* I am in no way affiliated with backbase, nor have I tried or used a single product of them!

Re:windows onlyBetter head over to http://www.backbase.com/ then. And yes, they eat their own dog food!

Re:Demos
What are you talking about? You can use AJAX for a product catalogue and shopping cart easily without breaking things.
Show me an implementation of an AJAX product catalog that doesn't suffer from severe usability problems. Backbase is a perfect example of why this is not a good idea: http://projects.backbase.com/RUI/shop.html

Others are allready doing it...
For instance, check out BackBase, a company which provides almost the same functionality. I can't really give a good outline of their products, besides that they are supposedly coming over to give a presentation any time soon at our company. It sounds good tho...
To quote some of their website: "Backbase offers products and implementation services that allow our clients to develop rich user interfaces that move beyond the limitations of traditional HTML web interfaces. Our technology is based on open industry standards (W3C) and offers out-of-the-box integrations with leading IT-platforms and applications."
