Do you really need me to list the 50+ games that SUCKED for each gem you've listed (and I'd agree with your list, except you missed System Shock)?

What the OP is really on about is the fact that we're swimming in games today and most of them suck....exactly like yesteryear. Now he has the advantage of hindsight to say "oh, that one was really a classic".

Oh and additionally with some of the most loved franchises you don't even need emulators or virtualization. They are being lovingly adapted to modern times.

I'm looking at my mac options from GOG and I'm wondering.. Planescape or Baldurs Gate?

Both are really good games. As a standalone experience, I'd recommend Planescape. However, nothing beats starting a character in Candlekeep in BG1 and following the character throughout BG1 (w/expansion), BG2 and finally BG2:Throne of Bhaal.

It should be noted that BG1 (w/expansion) has just been released in an enhanced version available on the iPad(!), Windows and soon Mac.

It is activation only DRM. Where did this always-online DRM rumor start?

My info came from here. Admittedly, its looks like they don't mention Kickstarter, but old school games are still being built. Like Legend of Grimrock, but without Kickstarter. My bad. Also the official BG Site has a good bit of news on it. I am looking forward to this one. They are remaking the entire series.

They are rebuilding the entire Baldurs Gate series through Kickstarter...

Citation needed? A quick search on Kickstarter returns no results for Baldur's Gate. There is the Enhanced Edition planned, but that's not through Kickstarter to my knowledge.
