of course
Of course megapixels don't mean much without the optics to match. Compare these two images, both taken at 640x480. Spotting the photo taken on the Treo isn't hard...

Re:Windows v Linux on Mobile is like Mac v Linux
There are some OSS apps for Symbian - PuTTY, for example - but not many. I think the thing is that Symbian isn't that much fun to develop for, a lot of the development tools (emulator etc) are Windows-only and the Symbian market is quite good for selling software too, so a lot of the small utilities end up as pay-software rather than OSS.
At some point, I might port SiEd from PalmOS to Symbian, as I haven't used my Tungsten E in six months and I would like a decent editor on my phone. -
Re:I'm old fashioned
My alternative (IXUS 50+ random small Nokia phone) to the N90, which would be cheaper, slightly smaller and a far higher quality camera.
There are plenty of cameras small enough to fit in a trouser pocket so that you can always have one with you, that's what I do with the IXUS 50. -
Re:Funniest quote
I understand that it must be tricky with so many developers in the project to get decisions made. I find it difficult enough with my project, and I'm the only developer! I just felt the quote was indicative of the development mindset that led me to switch to GNOME.
I'm glad that KDE is taking this kind of issue more seriously - I switched to GNOME a while back, but I still check out KDE every so often. I think I still have about 30 lines of code in KImageEffect somewhere.
I'm not sure I'd have the time for working on KDE - I already run my own project and have a pile of feature requests going back months I never seem to get round to.

Try SiED, it is a solution, and GPLed to boot..
Even if it does not strictly adhere to Palm interface guidelines, it takes less than two mins to get used to, and it is a good
.txt solution. Get it at: http://benroe.com/sied/index.shtml The program is good, but if you hate the icon, you can freely blame me. -
Blatant bit of self-promotion
It doesn't seem to want to deal with text files (there is no import feature for the Palm Desktop notepad or memo pad, for example).
I found the lack of a decent text editor so annoying that 18 months ago I started writing a text editor for PalmOS: SiEd. It opens text files straight from SD-Cards, as well as Palm DOC files in main memory. You can use it to convert between the two as well.

Re:Good idea
You need a system tray running - it looks like this.

Palm software
If you take the palm with keyboard route as a lot of people are suggesting, I recommend SiEd for text editing, it saves files as normal text files on the memory card.
If you carry around a cellphone, you can then upload the files with VFSFTP. When I went to events before I got my laptop, I used this setup to update my webpage with live information. I could also upload photos as such.
Ah, one more handy program, Mocha Telnet, it has SSH-2 support. I used it to ssh in to make thumbnails of the photos I'd uploaded. -
Re:What does it do that's so special?a few points:
- why does it matter how long it takes to start? I just switch my computer on in the morning and off in the evening, so I only see the startup time once a day.
- Everything in KDE is configurable. Can you see a taskbar in this screenshot?. I have a window list bound to alt-X.
- The CLI is still there for when you need it. Transparently sftp connecting using konqueror to remote servers is useful and faster in most cases than a sftp in an xterm. If the CLI is faster for you, then use it. I think in many cases people just say that because it make them feel more 'l33t'.
- The apps in KDE are excellent - I like Juk, KMail and konqueror (as a file manager). All well integrated into the desktop.
I used to use windowmaker a lot - then I realised how much easier and faster to use KDE is.
