    I'm curious how they are getting the numbers for the graph at www.incidents.org... If Red Code RANDOMLY generates IP addresses to try, then I have the same chance of getting attacks on my web site that they do. My usage graph for the Reflective Puddle of Leaking Mental Ooze only shows about 65 attempts so far...

    What gives? How are they getting 150,000+?

    Something about them is just too cool, even compared to EverCrack^H^H^H^H^HQuest. I think that RPG games are always better to be played non-graphical - let you mind do the imagery, it'll always blow away the graphics of even a 14 gigabyte Voodoo 20 9000 :)

    I've just started getting back into wasting too much of my time MUDding again. I forgot how much fun I had with them.

    I broke down and bought a router for my Cable Modem so can redirect incoming traffic to my Linux box so I could run CircleMUD again. I've just started modding it, but there's already some cool things in place. Just need players now! (And I'm in a generous mood - I've been advancing new players to level 15 when I see them online at the same time I am)

    On the picture, there are some really out of place images splashed in. Especially the the Baseball Pitcher - Not "this looks like a baseball pitcher" - it looks like a digitally-perfect baseball pitcher walking on the baseball field. Very weird.

    Yah, but what about database generated info where the data doesn't go stale quickly at all.

    Like my MessageBase web discussion code, it's all database driven, but once a message gets posted, it's pretty much there for life. I've noticed that none of the search engines will even touch an ASP (Yah, ASP, once I get my Java skills improved, I'll be changing it to JSP). I've watched the logs when the googlebot comes visiting, and is doesn't even go there. Seems kind of wasteful and incomplete.

    You'd think there was some kind of a way/need/demand for this kind of a thing with most things these days (Slashdot included) being database generated. I take it that the search engines only hit the old archived Slasdot stories, rather than the newest content?

    Here is the /. post from the last even day, apparently something got screwed up since then. It originally said 8-28-888:

    I have seen nothing from the US during my life except these "beat up the little guy and tell him what to do" skirmishes my whole life. No longer do we fight honorable wars like WWII - where we actually had a reason to fight (and even give our lives) to protect ourselves. Instead we behave like the mean kid on the block chasing little kids around with an electric cattle prod stolen from daddy. And laughing because they can't do anything to us. I don't like it. I don't like this whole NATO/Big Brother thing either. Read this for more info (The SmallBrain "mammals" will say it is anti-government. LargeBrained people will realize that it is pro-constitution)

    I'm sure I'll get power-flamed for a lot of this. I love my country, but I fear my government. I'm just not really understanding the need for all these wimp-wars of the last 20 years. Why don't we just live our lives. If someone wants to be stupid enough to come mess with the US, then we can wallop them, but until then we should just be nice. This is more like walking around saying "I bet you can't kick MY ass!" - That's all fun until someone comes along that CAN. Every large empire (which is pretty much what the US has become) has behaved the same way. Now there is no Greek, Roman, English, empires. Someone finally kicked the arrogance out of them. We need to use our magic for good, not evil.

    That is all I've got to say about that for now.
