I may hate microsoft, but...
Getting that Eolas ruling overturned is a good thing. I for one am sick and tired of the bloodsuckers grasping patents to block innovation so they can make an easy million of patenting an idea they never implement.
Software patents are bad... when you come up with an idea, and go about developing a large programming project, something is seriously wrong when the legal team does patent research and discovers that all that in house code that was written violates 30 patents.
Something needs to be done... immediately.

Let's admint it... revenge feels good
Revenge is always one of those things that, besides are better ethics not too, always makes one feel good.
It's never a matter of being right or wrong, it's that feeling of justice I suppose, the feeling that we have, in our eyes, made things right in the world .
Of course, it's also immensely selfish and one sided.

Re:Good deal for Microsoft
I, for one, am glad we use linux as our desktop workstations at work. No worries about new iterations of windows and licensing to use them.
;)
I must say, linux has been gaining a wide acceptence on the desktop and we have even converted some local businesses by finding open source replacements that do essentially what they need (coupled with some of the custom made software we've developed to meet their needs).
The longer MS delays the next release of windows, the more people they'll lose to linux. One of the old arguements was that Windows is easier to install/use. This is no longer the case. Many distros out there these days install in under 25 minutes, detect all the hardware alot better than windows (where I had to download drivers for my video card in windows, which my distro already had)and comes with a helluva lot more out of the box than windows does too (although I agree Office is better than OpenOffice, netherless, Open Office meets the needs of most).
Frankly, I just don't see Longhorn doing too well... alot can change with linux in 2 years, and IMHO it will only get better.

Re:Progress
One of the things that has always bothered me about XFree86 in the past 6 years I have used linux is XFree86's kind of lag in new releases... development seems to move at a snail's pace, and let's be frank, it's almost the same as it was back in the good ol' unix days.
I for one enjoy X.org and a windowing system that can hopefully be kept up to date and have more active development.
But my question is... how many more forks will we have?

I Owe Alot to Open Source Software
Being a college student, there was no way I could afford all those expensive production suites for windows, so Open Source was a huge help in perfecting my skill as a programmmer durig college not only with all the free software/development suites, but also, with being able to look over the source of any program I had, I was able to pick up quite a bit.
I suppose you could say open source software has not only been inspiring, but beneficial. It help fostered in me a view of programming as a hobby, and I'd definately say my time spent on open source projects really helps increase my skill level (keeps me turning out better code at work).
TO those of you out there who, like myself included now, are working hard on open source projects...
Thank You.
