Re:*BSD is dyingUmm, the troll said FreeBSD has 80% of the *BSD market, at 36,400 users. That would make the whole market 45,500 users. Your counter shows 42,927 total *BSD machines, and 50,187 users. It would seem that the *BSD is dying troll statistics split the difference between users and machines quite accurately, given a little statistical wiggle room.
The BSD Counter is a work in progress. The user count is working, mostly. The machine count is broken and is being fixed this week. The number of machines you see there is part of a debug test. Come back later and register your machine.

Re:*BSD is dyingAll major surveys show that *BSD has steadily declined in market share. *BSD is very sick and its long term survival prospects are very dim. If *BSD is to survive at all it will be among OS hobbyist dabblers. *BSD continues to decay. Nothing short of a miracle could save it at this point in time. For all practical purposes, *BSD is dead.
Yea, yea. I was wondering when you were going to be showing your troll-ass. The BSD Counter proves you wrong. Fuck off, troll.

Once again this loser posts this crap. *BSD is not dead. I run the BSD Counter Page. By our count we currently have 43,028 verified FreeBSD users. This page is not very well advertised and is in the process of being revamped. All you *BSD users out there come and register on this site and fuck this loser.

Re:Yes, but bear in mind...OpenBSD leader Theo states that there are 7000 users of OpenBSD. How many users of NetBSD are there? Let's see. The number of OpenBSD versus NetBSD posts on Usenet is roughly in ratio of 5 to 1. Therefore there are about 7000/5 = 1400 NetBSD users. BSD/OS posts on Usenet are about half of the volume of NetBSD posts. Therefore there are about 700 users of BSD/OS. A recent article put FreeBSD at about 80 percent of the *BSD market. Therefore there are (7000+1400+700)*4 = 36400 FreeBSD users. This is consistent with the number of FreeBSD Usenet posts.
This clown is completely full of shit. He has posted the SAME post 23 time in this thread. Is this a loser or what? I run the BSD counter page. It is still a work in progress and has not been advertised much but at the moment I have 43,013 verified FreeBSD users in my database. This loser, in demonstrating that he failed statistics, says there are no more than 36,400 FreeBSD users. My count also does not include the BSDi, OpenBSD, NetBSD, or OsX users. And given that *BSD is more a server OS than Linux the count of machines running *BSD is going to be much higher than Linux.
For all practical purposes, *BSD is dead.
Dead, my kosher ass! Run along, little boy, and annoy someone else.

Contary to what Josef Gobels said and what you believe, a lie repeated over and over again does not make it true.
I run the BsdCounter page. It is still a work in progress but I currently have 42,808 FreeBSD users in the database. That's 42,808 verified users. While re-working this site I had to tossed a couple of thousand users that I could not verify ie. bogus or dead email address. IF that 42,808 users represent only 1% of the FreeBSD users then that means there are over 4 million users of FreeBSD. That count does not include all the users of BSDi, NetBSD, and OpenBSD. That count also does not take into consideration the numbers of machines running *BSD. The BSD's are more server orientated than Linux which is more desktop orientated. So while my current count is of *BSD users, the count *BSD machines is most likley to be much higher.
"*BSD is dead", my kosher ass. Run along, little boy, and annoy someone else.

Re:Sign tarballs with a crypto hashYou don't need to be Kreskin to predict *BSD's future. The hand writing is on the wall: *BSD faces a bleak future. In fact there won't be any future at all for *BSD because *BSD is dying. Things are looking very bad for *BSD. As many of us are already aware, *BSD continues to lose market share. Red ink flows like a river of blood.
Blah, Blah, Blah. Yea, fuck off, junior.
I run the BsdCounter page. It is still a work in progress but I currently have 42,737 FreeBSD users in the database. That's 42,737 verified users.
