Re:Makes perfect sense
I worked on Chipmark, which is both an open source project and a school project. It was also one of the most valuable classes I took in college. The grading was lots less concrete than any other class, which I'm sure made it more difficult on the instructor. It also made it hard on students as you don't have a set of concrete requirements to gauge yourself with. Chipmark shows that it is not impossible to do and is in fact extremely valuable.

Don't need this
I already have 2 extensions that do this, Foxmarks http://www.foxcloud.com/ and Chipmarks www.chipmark.com/.Google is late to the party on this, and besides one of these days Google will turn it's info over to the Government or a corporation that gives it enough money. FWIW, Foxmarks is more automated, Chipmarks seems static to me.

Re:I want
Chipmark is exactly what you want. It has a Firefox plugin that pretty much mimics the Bookmarks menu, so it works on any platform that has Firefox, and it is going to have an IE extension at the next release (which is in the next few weeks apparently). If you're not using FF or IE, you can also just log into the website to get your bookmarks.

Re:Packratitis
There is a bookmarking systme called Chipmark that I use that is going to have a new release sometime soon, and one of the new features will be that all links will be checked every so often to make sure that they are not 404'd, and then it will notify you with a tag or something if the link is broken. Pretty neat.

Re:regarding bookmarks...
I noticed that there are no custom icons... The second is that's there's no way for me to control the order in which my bookmarks are displayed.
Both of these are features that we plan on adding in upcoming releases, but feel free to e-mail any other feature ideas or bug reports to bugs@chipmark.com. -
Re:regarding bookmarks...
I've recently been using http://del.icio.us combined with a live bookmark in my bookmarks toolbar.
You might want to try out Chipmark. It's a service created at the University of Minnesota similar to del.icio.us, but it's open source, and they provide a Firefox/Mozilla extension. It's pretty good, but then again, I might be biased, since I'm part of the development team. -
