Open source DARPA projects
We work on a DARPA project that runs a distrubuted multiagent system which is written in Java across a couple hundred dual-Xeon machines running Linux. The control mechanism is a Ruby application framework that uses Jabber for control and stressing of the multiagent application.
Not only is the project using open source as the infrastructure, but contributing to the open source community with projects like Cougaar and PMD.
We use Linux primarily because of the simplification of administration and maintanence. -
Re:no more RDBS?
Sweet. Nice setup.
I'll post back here if mine gets over a couple GB... most of the space in it is consumed right here:

We're using Postgres for GForge - this GForge installation has a 216 MB database. Not very big yet, but running smooth and serving up plenty of hits so far....

Re:BOGUS REPORT
I had a problem last weekend with CougaarForge - for some reason the parent domain got redirected to a placeholder page. After a bunch of phone calls they switched it back, but it was most definitely hosed up for most of the weekend...

Re:Sourceforge / Savannah / Debian SF/ GForge HUH?
GForge is definitely the "main line" of SourceForge development now... with many new features, including nascent SOAP support, better task management, and an active development community, it's definitely worth a look-see if you need a project management tool.
Here's the GForge install I support - CougaarForge.

Tom
