Re:Duh.
Because when there is a Senate seat won in Mass, and you live in California, you would not want to know the ramifications to the healthcare bill in the senate?
And anyone who cares knows about it. And it's not like the candidates and the parties weren't talking about it either, duh!
Heck, I'm in Kanuckistan, haven't read a newspaper in a year, don't watch tv news or listen to it on the radio, and I know about it - because of this wonderful thing called the Internet. Why bother with any other source - when half the time they're just recycling stuff I've heard about 3 days before?
- If you're fat, old, and stupid, you get your news from TV (46%). Well, Duh! Not newspapers.
- If you're old and educated, you get it from TV and the Net (23%). Not newspapers.
- If you're under 50, educated, you get your news mostly off the internet, with some TV. Not newspapers.
- The graph is a bit out of date - newspapers are not #3 any more - they're #4, behind TV, radio, and the Internet, as a news source. A lot has changed since the Great Recession started, with more than 10% of all newspapers just disappearing.
All of today's newspapers will be out of print by 2020 - either purely digital, or bankrupt and re-organized.
Next on the "hit list" is #1 - TV news. Radio will survive for a while because it's illegal to surf the net while driving. But TV news is under tremendous pressure, with ALL broadcast TV viewing down because of:
- Time competition from the Internet.
- Big-screen TVs hooked to laptops, gaming consoles, the Internet, satellite, dvd and blu-ray players.
- Crap content from the networks. 500 channels, and often there's nothing on!

Re:hypocrisy
Actually, both the McCain campaign and the RNC have gotten itself in hot water several times for using copyrighted music or video clips without permission during this cycle.
A few examples:
McCain was served with a cease and desist letter from Fox News after he used their broadcast footage in a commercial without buying it...
McCain was sued by Mike Myers after he used a clip from a skit from SNL without purchasing it or getting permission from Myers himself (Myers isn't the copyright owner, but that's irrelevant).
McCain got yelled at by copyright owners for using the "Rocky" theme song in an ad without permission.
One of McCain's YouTube videos have been hit with a copyright infringement claim by Warner Music Group after the campaign used a song by Frankie Valli without permission.
Of course, all of this is not to mention McCain's little plagiarism issue with Wikipedia... -
Re:The motion to adjourn passed...
When the motion to adjourn was made, over 100 Republicans were signed up to speak for 5 minutes each on oil/energy.
Link?
It was all over the radio this afternoon. The Republicans think they're going to make the most political hay over the recess about drilling, so this is what they wanted to talk about.
The Dems foolishly turned it into a news story.

Florida House 13
Why are people ignoring what is going on in Florida House District 13?
The Rebublicans are claiming a 369 vote victory. However the EVMs in Sarasota county, reported an undervote of 18,000. or 1 in 6 of the total votes, which is much higher than the undervote in both the other counties and on average. Sarasota County also happened to be where the Democrat challenger won the vote by 6 percentage points (of the votes cast in that county).
There are some obviously severe issues with Electronic Voting, Particularly when there is no paper trail (as in the case for this district). Sure, there are ways to change the vote on a paper verification ballot, however large scale fraud becomes problematic to implement.

Re:Big Leashed Brother
Real Congressional oversight. Real punishment for violators. Real institutional processes for keeping data within the scope of only the required transaction. Real trustworthy government processes that make "security" both use and protect data.
Which the government mostly did, when Congress was Democratic.
I'm not sure I could trust a Democratic congress either though?
Cynthia McKinney didn't believe she should be punished for scuffling with a police officer.
William J. Jefferson didn't get punished for his "freezer" corruption.
Patrick Kennedy also seemed to receive some special treatment during his crash.
It seems to me like both parties are corrupt, and you shouldn't argue that one can be trusted over another, because neither like to serve punishment towards their own members?
