Here in Sweden there's an experiment going on with a small robot that's learning to walk. When I say walk I know there are and have been several robots that "walk", but this one is supposed to walk like a human. This means: the robot has two legs only and walks by leaning forward and "stopping the fall" by constantly puting it's legs infront of himself. That's the way we humans walk and it's pretty complicated because of the comlex balance handling due to the constant shifting of our center of gravity.

They tried to teach it to walk at the begining by simply using programers to program it but it was to hard (if I remember correctly). So instead they let the robot generate random pieces of code that it tries out and discards or keeps. The computer scientists that have checked the code say that it's weird looking and sometimes not understandable att all but it works and that's what the robot needs.
