Monitor Draws Zero Power In Standby
fifthace writes "A new range of Fujitsu Siemens monitors don't draw power during standby. The technology uses capacitors and relays to avoid drawing power when no video signal is present. With political parties all over Europe calling for a ban on standby, this small development could end up as one of the most significant advances in recent times. The British Government estimates eight percent of all domestic electricity is consumed by devices in standby." -
UK Government dropping Key Escrow?
Crazyscot writes "The UK Department of Trade and Industry have released a consultation paper suggesting they are willing to drop their proposals for key escrow. However, the BBC coverage of the story warns that if no alternative is found within three weeks, the escrow proposals may be revived. " I think a great alternative would be giving it to Rob and I. UK On Encryption
James Radley wrote in to give us this link to an article about the UK's plans for encryption. James writes " The document suggests the setting up of gov licenced Trusted Third Parties ( TTP's ) that will keep public key rings. They too would have to keep the private keys, so that law enforcement agencies could intercept messages. The ruling Labour party, then in opposition, objected to this, but they may well implement it now they are in government. Hmm "
