    An anonymous reader writes "The 802.16a standard, approved in January of this year, is a wireless metropolitan area network technology that will connect 802.11 hot spots to the Internet and provide a wireless extension to cable and DSL for last mile broadband access. It provides up to 50-kilometers of range and allows users to get broadband connectivity without needing a direct line of sight with the base station. The wireless broadband technology also provides shared data rates up to 70-Mbit/s."

    duplicate-nickname writes "Finally some good news on the patent font. A US district court tossed out most of Rambus' patent infingement claims against Infineon. The judge also states that even if Infineon has infringed on the remaining patents, they didn't do so willfully."

    An Anonymous reader dropped us a note saying that Samsung has introduced a 16.5-inch LCD with a 4:3 aspect ratio for notebook PC. The first generation of 15" laptops looked like tanks- but it really would be smooth to have a super thin (I've been tapping on a VAIO lately) laptop with that size screen. Maybe in a few years.
