Re:Really?
Eh, I buy Eddie Bauer t-shirts at Sam's for about $8 each. They aren't too bad. Not sure what they would cost at an actual Eddie Bauer store though.
Cheapest T-shirt costs $20~$23 on their web site. I am sure they are made-in-China which would cost them a couple dollars including shipping. $8 is still more expensive than other T-shirts (no name brand) I could find in Walmart.

Re:that reminds me what to "get" todayswung from building to building on a rope tied to a bauerang,
I had no idea that Eddie Bauer labeled and sold superhero accessories. Very stylish, I'm sure.

Re:Pollution question
Everything has risks --- the question is, what risks are we better-off taking?
While I agree that the crazies who strip are just crazies, there is more to this issue. Take a look at Eddie Bauer's description of their product:

Not one mention of Teflon being used in their pants. Note how in the article, the "backgrounder" provided talked all about how the product meets all current safety laws, etc. But still doesn't mention Teflon, much less the fact that it is known to be absorbed into humans through the skin, and while the toxicity of fumes from burning teflon is well known, less is understood about its unburnt presence in humans, other than the fact that it can remain in the human body for years, while rats somehow flush it out within days.
If we're going to talk about balancing risks versus rewards, companies are going to have to be more forthcoming about those risks, or about the fact that they don't know what those risks are. Until then, we'll have crazy kooks stripping in public in an attempt to force someone to pay attention. -
Re:someone enlighten me please
Even geeks such as Bill Joy and Ray Kurzweil have been decrying the scary nature of nanotechnology, especially where it dovetails with artificial intellenge and genetic engineering, for over five years. But the interesting part here is, how many geeks are going to be the ones to buy these pants? I mean, we're the ones who bought a prius, not just because it was envionmentally friendly, but because it was a gadget and a Good Idea. For those of us who live at (or at least are not afraid of) the command line, a pair of khakis that sheds coffee stains sounds like a dream come true.

Re:"Death" of RetailHowever, I'd NEVER buy clothes online.
I disagree. Being a big (as in tall and egg-shaped) programmer, I love shopping on-line at places like Eddie Bauer. They have a wide collection of good stuff, the sizes are consistent, and they don't assume, like most stores that you are in the middle 50% of the population in terms of size. -
Wedding Registries
Online registry ideas:
In-store registries: Other places to look:Believe it or not, some people *want* to give you expensive gifts. We registered for a few things that we really wanted (like a $450/set of pots and pans) and we got them! The most important stuff to register for is kitchen stuff and sheets/blankets/towels. Honestly, skip the technie stuff... most people (particularly family and close friends) don't want to buy you that kind of gift for your wedding.
If you have lots of in-town guests, use a local store. If you register at a place like Famous Barr, DON'T also go to Target. Its not worth the time and effort. If you have lots of out of town guests, do something like Target, but make sure that you don't duplicate. Target will allow you to return gifts, but only with a receipt.. but our experience was that they only allow an in-store exchange. Famous Barr was really good about taking stuff back, even things that might not have been bought in their store. If they don't recognize the item, they can probably tell you where it came from. You only have a week though... so you might consider asking for cash instead of gifts. Your poor wife-to-be is probably going crazy right now and the last thing she wants to do is traipse around unending aisles zapping cleaners and silverware.
Good luck and Congratulations!
