PPC Emulators To Debut at MacWorld Tokyo
jx100 writes: "I've been following the Mac emulation community for awhile, and, apparently, Mac PPC emulators are about to be unveiled for the PC. Emaculation.com says that Microcode Solutions and Emulators Inc. are planning on showing their emulators at MacWorld Tokyo 2002." -
The Pentium IV Dissected
An AC pointed sent us this: "In this extremely well written and technical article, the author points out the various mistakes that Intel made with the production of the Pentium IV, the fact that Intel and other manufacturers have been misleading customers about the performance of the Pentium IV, and the amount of work that will be pushed onto software developers backs to get a piece of software to run at a reasonable speed." Beginning section readable by anybody; by the end you need to know a little more assembly language than is healthy for anyone, but excellent overall. For a Cliff's Notes version of the above, try this NYTimes article discussing the chip in non-technical terms. My guess is that most computer buyers will continue to compare only clock speeds, however. -
Emulator Maker Rants About Microsoft & Apple
hojo writes: "There's a good (somewhat long) discussion from Darek Mihocka at this link to Emulators.com describing his problems dealing with trying to emulate Macs on buggy Windows operating systems. He gives a nice dissertation regarding why he think Mac OS X is a Bad Idea (TM), how Intel has screwed up with their marketing-driven engineering, and how Microsoft has impeded his ability to get things done with the introduction of new bugs in Win Me. He's a brilliant programmer and worth listening to--one of the greatest assembly language wizards out there, period."
