Re:Islamic groups are pushing censorship worldwide
So why are people being prosecuted for bringing it up?
Because various Islamic groups and authorities - as well as individual radicals - want to prohibit the examination of the religion by the West.
There are several reasons for this, but the primary political motivation is stealth jihad.

Re:Troubling decisionIt applies to foreign nationals who are being held by US enforcers (soldiers, police, whatever),
Enforcers? The police are generally concerned about matters of criminal or regulatory law. Soldiers are generally concerned about the law of war. They are separate bodies of law, the purpose, standards, and requirements tend to be quite different. We are treading a dangerous path if we are going to start confusing them or blurring the distinctions.Andrew McCarthy was the federal prosecutor who, against all odds, secured a long prison term for Omar Abdel Rahman, the "Blind Sheikh" who plotted the first World Trade Center bombing in 1993. McCarthy's new book, Willful Blindness: A Memoir of the Jihad, recounts just how difficult that task was.
More importantly, McCarthy illustrates how it's almost impossible to foil terrorist attacks under the law enforcement model.
For the first time, McCarthy intimately reveals the real story behind the FBI's inability to stop the first World Trade Center bombing even though the bureau had an undercover informant in the operation -- the jihadists' supposed bombmaker.
In the first sentence of his hard-hitting account, the author sums up the lawyerly -- but staggeringly incomprehensive -- reason why the FBI pulled its informant out of the terrorist group even as plans were coming to a head on a major attack:
"Think of the liability!"
The first rule for government attorneys in counterintelligence in the 1990s was, McCarthy tells us, "Avoid accountable failure," Thus, when the situation demanded action, the feds copped a CYA posture, the first refuge of the bureaucrat. Willful Blindness
Then treat them as prisoners of war. That comes with its own set of rules, of course.
You got that almost right. War comes with its own rules, and you get certain protections and privileges if you obey the rules, ie the Geneva Conventions. Real POWs, lawful combatants, can't be held liable for killing your soldiers in battle (if it is according to the rules), can't be interrogated beyond their name, rank, date of birth, and service number, have to be paid a wage by your side while in captivity, have to be given the chance to prepare their own food (which means access to knives, cleavers, etc.) are free to send and receive mail, you must notify the other side that you have captured them, and other requirements. That is if you are at war and obey the rules - you don't get to pick the ones you like. Al Qaeda and their ilk don't obey the rules, so they are unlawful combatants, and don't qualify for the protections and privileges of the Geneva Conventions. The convention itself lists the rules to qualify. (Do you think those privileges and protections make sense to extend to Al Qaeda? Can't question them? Have to notify on capture?) That doesn't put them into the civilian legal system, it leaves them subject to the law of war but in jeopardy for their unlawful conduct under the law of war. -
What Islam Isn't
The original article at FrontPage magazine explains a lot.
Islam is not a religion nor is it a cult. It is a complete system.
Islam has religious, legal, political, economic and military components. The religious component is a beard for all the other components.
Islamization occurs when there are sufficient Muslims in a country to agitate for their so-called 'religious rights.'
When politically correct and culturally diverse societies agree to 'the reasonable' Muslim demands for their 'religious rights,' they also get the other components under the table. Here's how it works (percentages source CIA: The World Fact Book (2007)).
As long as the Muslim population remains around 1% of any given country they will be regarded as a peace-loving minority and not as a threat to anyone. In fact, they may be featured in articles and films, stereotyped for their colorful uniqueness:
United States -- Muslim 1.0%
Australia -- Muslim 1.5%
Canada -- Muslim 1.9%
China -- Muslim 1%-2%
Italy -- Muslim 1.5%
Norway -- Muslim 1.8%At 2% and 3% they begin to proselytize from other ethnic minorities and disaffected groups with major recruiting from the jails and among street gangs:
Denmark -- Muslim 2%
Germany -- Muslim 3.7%
United Kingdom -- Muslim 2.7%
Spain -- Muslim 4%
Thailand -- Muslim 4.6%From 5% on they exercise an inordinate influence in proportion to their percentage of the population.
They will push for the introduction of halal (clean by Islamic standards) food, thereby securing food preparation jobs for Muslims. They will increase pressure on supermarket chains to feature it on their shelves -- along with threats for failure to comply. ( United States ).
France -- Muslim 8%
Philippines -- Muslim 5%
Sweden -- Muslim 5%
Switzerland -- Muslim 4.3%
The Netherlands -- Muslim 5.5%
Trinidad &Tobago -- Muslim 5.8%At this point, they will work to get the ruling government to allow them to rule themselves under Sharia, the Islamic Law. The ultimate goal of Islam is not to convert the world but to establish Sharia law over the entire world.
When Muslims reach 10% of the population, they will increase lawlessness as a means of complaint about their conditions ( Paris --car-burnings). Any non-Muslim action that offends Islam will result in uprisings and threats ( Amsterdam - Mohammed cartoons).

Re:Osama said it best...Of course, we should keep in mind that Bush is simply the symbol of this decay. The Administration as a whole is what scares the hell out of me. Add to this the people in Congress who support these shenanigans.
You concerns are hardly new, and are quite misplaced I think.
Tom Wolfe on Fascism: :I wanted to get the source for the "dark night of fascism is always descending in the United States and yet lands only in Europe," so I tracked it down to Tom Wolfe's "The Intelligent Coed's Guide to America," republished in Mauve Gloves & Madmen, Clutter & Vine (1976). In the process, I found a more extended discussion that struck me as worth repeating. Here's the relevant excerpt, from pp. 115-17 of the hardcover edition; it reports on a panel discussion at Princeton in 1965, in which the participants included Paul Krassner, editor of The Realist magazine, Günter Grass, and Wolfe:
The next thing I knew, the discussion was onto the subject of fascism in America. Everybody was talking about police repression and the anxiety and paranoia as good folks waited for the knock on the door and the descent of the knout on the nape of the neck. I couldn't make any sense out of it. . . . This was the mid-1960's. . . . [T]he folks were running wilder and freer than any people in history. For that matter, Krassner himself, in one of the strokes of exuberance for which he was well known, was soon to publish a slight hoax: an account of how Lyndon Johnson was so overjoyed about becoming President that he had buggered a wound in the neck of John F. Kennedy on Air Force One as Kennedy's body was being flown back from Dallas. Krassner presented this as a suppressed chapter from William Manchester's book Death of a President. Johnson, of course, was still President when it came out. Yet the merciless gestapo dragnet missed Krassner, who cleverly hid out onstage at Princeton on Saturday nights. . .
.
Support [for Wolfe's view that fascism wasn't coming to America] came from a quarter I hadn't counted on. It was Grass, speaking in English.
"For the past hour, I have my eyes fixed on the doors here," he said. "You talk about fascism and police repression. In Germany when I was a student, they come through those doors long ago. Here they must be very slow."
Grass was enjoying himself for the first time all evening. He was not simply saying, "You really don't have so much to worry about." He was indulging his sense of the absurd. He was saying: "You American intellectuals -- you want so desperately to feel besieged and persecuted!"
He sounded like Jean-François Revel, a French socialist writer who talks about one of the great unexplained phenomena of modern astronomy: namely, that the dark night of fascism is always descending in the United States and yet lands only in Europe.I credit you that you didn't decend into the fever swamps.
"I tell you, freedom and human rights in America are doomed," bin Laden said as the U.S. war on terrorism raged in Afghanistan. "The U.S. government will lead the American people in -- and the West in general -- into an unbearable hell and a choking life." linky [cnn.com]
I take that as meaning Bin Laden was confident in his ultimate victory, which is to either turn the US into a Muslim nation governed by Islamic Sharia law, or to destroy it. It is spelled out in Bin Laden's Letter to America:Q2) As for the second question that we want to answer: What are we calling you to, and what do we want from you?
(1) The first thing that we are calling you to is Islam.Convert to Islam.
2) The second thing we call you to, is to stop your oppression,
