    I just updated the original post with instructions to get Flash. Basically, search for "flash 10.1" in the market.

    I wrote the original story. In the article, I didn't talk about optical storage. Slashdot chose to use a different title over here. But, now that I think about it, I'm not so sure that BluRay will be as long lived as DVD. But it won't be because of SSD. It'll get knocked off by streaming and download services. But pricing is a major issue there. If studios allowed for better rental terms for 1080p VOD from Amazon, Netflix, etc. BluRay would be suffering now - at least amongst folks with 10+ Mbps Internet connections. You can already get high quality downloads to your DVR, PS3, or other box. So better rental terms (like 72 hours instead of 24) + More pervasive high speed broadband + BluRay/DVD-like Interactivity (languages, subtitles, commentaries, etc) = no need for BluRay.

    So, Google/HTC could have very easily made this one phone model compatible with not only T-Mobile and AT&T, but pretty much any 3GSM network worldwide if they only included the right combination of power amplifiers. According to iSuppli’s teardown of the Nexus One, the four small power amplifiers that are in the Nexus One only account for $2.20 in manufacturing costs. $2.20! How much more could a different combination of power amplifiers have cost? Maybe another $2 (at most)?!

    It just sounds like a deliberate decision to aid the wireless carrier oligopoly. Given that we’ve seen HTC’s FCC documents to introduce an AT&T oriented version of the Nexus One, you’d think that overall engineering, manufacturing, warehousing, and sales expenses would be lowered enough by offering a single model that could replace two.

    The deliberate lack of network compatibility is simply bewildering.

    What was that about not being evil again?
