Re:I've been playing MWO since closed beta...
And I wonder what the heck the submitter / article author is smoking?
I read the link from the summery http://www.gamefront.com/mechwarrior-online-forum-ragesplosion/ (how to write an article!) and links from that. One thing I noticed is everybody on the user side is back tracking, this thread http://mwomercs.com/forums/topic/132638-3rd-person-an-update-and-apology-feedback-thread/ while locked after three pages is full of edits.

Doom I/II rendered in Doom III Engine instead
DOOM REBORN: http://www.gamefront.com/files/service/thankyou?id=8564319
* This is actually pretty amazing - what Doom I/II should've been & now, can be, per my subject-line above.
Plays very, Very, VERY FAST here on my current system too:
1.) Intel Core I7 920 CPU
2.) NVidia GeForce 470 GTXWhich is FAR from "state-of-the-art", more like middle of the road high performance nowadays I'd say...
(Lastly - In looking for that download link, I also found another "total conversion mod" I've never even TRIED, called "Classic Doom III" -> http://www.gamefront.com/files/8760638/classic_doom_3.1.3.1.exe that I am off to try, right now in fact...)
APK
P.S.=> It's only a few levels, around the first game's worth, but a lot of fun & nostalgia too... Just finished replaying it ("Phobos Anomaly" is cool, last level) in fact, since this made me recall I had this mod, so... thought I'd "share the wealth" for those of you that play Doom III!
... apk

Dotcom was hardly "little" in any pics I've seen of him... http://cdn2.gamefront.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/kimble.jpg

Re:TMNT: Mostly Sucks
"I'm not planning to go see this movie, but - CARTOON TURTLES!"
How is this different from being disappointed by starwars prequels or mass effect 3's ending? or ME2's horrible plot?

Re:oh well fuck em
It's just like Gabe Newell pointed out, that Piracy is almost always a service problem and not a pricing problem. I believe that to be true, buying music used to be a PITA, either horrible DRM schemes or the fact that you had to physically go to a store when the technology clearly existed to make this quick, easy and convenient. Until the rise of (mostly) DRM-free stores like iTunes, Zune, etc... I used to pirate music because it was easier not because it was cheaper, i had the money and i was quite willing to pay, but they decided to make it really inconvenient for me to be their customer. Now i buy all my music off iTunes and Zune because it's so easy, I can even do it in the car, on the plane or while i'm walking down the street! Same with Steam or XBox Games On Demand or PSN, rather than going to a store these services have made it much more convenient and I'm willing to pay for that convenience because that's really what I wanted.
The RIAA/MPAA are just dinosaurs, relics of the time before the internet who are now finding themselves too far behind and too far out of touch, all they have left is lawyers.

Torchlight
Torchlight is very much like Diablo, but not as scary, IIRC. Look into it. You can turn off any simulated blood, IIRC. There is a demo available at Gamefront file hosting.
BTW. These are TPL's (Third Person Looters), not adventure games. Usually, Diablo and FATE get called an RPG, which is a good enough classification. I almost recommended Zork I, based on the "adventure" genre, but then decided to RTFS. You can only imagine how disappointed your daughter would be cracking open a text adventure, wanting FATE instead!
If she gets into actual "adventure" games, the HER Interactive Nancy Drew series is a lot of fun, and has light to pretty difficult puzzles to solve.
