Wow, is he the last person to have heard of 'Search and Destroy' or even MS's new anti-spy ware programs? Is it really a good sign that his daughter can't keep the computer clean? If she is old enough to browse the sites that have a lot of spy ware on them (an hours worth of work every week), she should be old enough to do something about it. If not, they should have some parental controls (won't fix it, but will help). Firefox anyone?

The translation was obtained here, and the details on the ridiculous encryption method is available from the Wiki. It's a Caesar Cipher, and about as difficult to break as reading "HAL" as "IBM" in Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey.

I don't own that book, but I have skimmed it at the bookstore.

It's not really intended for use by players to come up with evil characters, it's intended for use by DMs to come up with convincing villains. Villains constructed from that material will disgust both players and their characters, giving them a goal whose urgency allows the characters to to set aside differences of race, alignment...even religion.

For campaigns with mature players, such villains are useful and effective. I wouldn't dream of having that kind of villain in a game with kids.

And there's a reason I don't own that book. I find its contents disturbing.

AWKhttpd - HTTPD written in AWK This is another "fun" HTTPD and it's written in the unix tool language AWK. This is (still) an Alpha prerelease.

There are httpd's written in pretty much every language -- although I don't think BrainF*ck has been used yet. And Malbolge certainly hasn't.

I dont know about FTP but here is a http server written in awk.

I heard of someone who wrote an HTTPD in awk (to be run from inetd.conf). Google turns up this but I'm not sure whether it's the same thing (and our company proxy doesn't let me to port :81).
