Re:Bloat
The point is not that you'd want to run it on a decade old PC but that it uses less system resources, leaving more for applications you want to run. The Firefox slowness was a recognised problem to do with not optimising the build for Linux (Mozilla developer's blog entry http://glandium.org/blog/?p=1975). The "Libreoffice is slow" thing sounds anecdotal and a quick google shows just as many Windows users complaining about it.
Users don't need to worry about which DE a program uses, programs which use another DE's toolkit work seamlessly in whatever DE you happen to be using. It's been this way for many, many years so I can't imagine people are being turned off Linux by it.

Re:But I'm a Debian user, you insensitive clod!
http://web.glandium.org/blog/?p=97
The only complaints I've seen about Iceweasel vs. Firefox (see, for example, posts in the "Software" section of the sidux.com forum) is that the Debian maintainer may not be doing a very decent job of bug-checking before uploading releases to the repositories. Other than that, everything (every extension, theme, bookmark, password, etc.) that has worked for me in Firefox also works on my Debian machines. It looks and acts exactly the same, including plugins. -
Re:Ready for the desktop?
The Firefox update issue is probably not a fair consideration, since it's not actually Canonical, it's a function of Debian's issues with Mozilla.
Uh... no. First off, it's not Debian's job to support Dapper Drake LTS. That's Ubuntu's job. So Ubuntu is in charge of supplying patches for it in a timely manner.
Second, Ubuntu is sticking with firefox just like RedHat, so even if there was a significant delta between Iceweasel and Firefox, which there isn't, that shouldn't affect Ubuntu. -
Re:Debian vs. Mozilla
Debain wanted to distribute their own patched version of Firefox, the Mozilla people didn't want to get blamed for all the bugs introduced by Debian, the name change was the way to resolve that conflict.
All the bugs introduced by Debian?
Please read http://web.glandium.org/blog/?p=97 and get a clue before making such ignorant statements. -
Re:Iceweasel and Trademarks
...and why are Ubuntu's patches acceptable for a branded browser why Debian's very similar patches are not?
-
Did you lie or were you just misinformed?
As regards your claim in that Debians patches are more significant in scope than Ubuntus in the question "I understand that Ubuntu is based upon Debian. Is that the same or different than the IceWeasel browser that Debian is shipping with their latest release?" on your blog, and in light of the response at Glandium.org, did you lie about the scope of the patches applied by Debian, or were you merely misinformed?
Alternatively is Mike Hommey incorrect in his analysis, and if so, how?

Re:Ubuntu Do What Debian [C/W]ouldn't...
Firefox in Ubuntu represents a somewhat more modest set of divergences from original Mozilla source code.
Complete and utter lies. Why a Mozilla employee feels the need to spread FUD and lie like this, I can only speculate about, but it really isn't pretty.
