Good Uses For Modem Teaming?
legana asks: "We are just about to install multiple cable modems at our office and we were wondering how to make the best use of them. What software/hardware is available that will allow us to share the modems across the network but still allow certain users priority (for uses such as video-conferencing, etc.)? Is it better to share all the modems across the entire network or break the network into subnets each with their own group of modems? Does connecting multiple modems to one computer really increase the bandwidth available?" -
PalmOS 3.3 Released
MatriXOracle writes "PalmOS 3.3 is now available for download for users of the Palm V, Palm III/IIIx, IBM WorkPad c3/30X/20X, and older Palms with the 2MB upgrade card. Palm IIIe users can't upgrade, due to the lack of a flashable ROM on those systems, and Palm VII users will have to wait for an upgrade compatible with those devices to become available. New features include a doubling of the maximum HotSync speed, HoySync-over-IR, Euro support, and network logon enhancements. " -
Cloning of extinct Huia bird approved
kade writes to us with the news that New Zealand scientists and ethicists have decided that attempts to clone the extinct Huia bird should begin immediatly. The birds were declared extinct in the 1920s, their fault being they had white tipped black feathers that were "used" in a European fashion craze in the 1920s. IMHO, more stuff like this should happen-and for the organisms in danger of extinction, we should procure cell samples in hope of cloning later. Of course, first priority should be saving them then, but what do you all think? -
IBM responds to Microsoft's SQL Server announcement
Darin McBride writes "I guess Microsoft made a few, um, misleading statements (purely accidental, I'm sure) which IBM felt it had to respond to. I'm sure MS wasn't throwing around FUD on purpose. Really." Darin's comment is, um, slightly misleading, in that Oracle too is subject for chastisement. But, I'm sure that too was purely accidental, Darin, wasn't it. ;-) <- J O K E.
