Lucas gone Gonzo
Actually, the original Star Wars, and the prequels, could qualify as Gonzo movies. (Gonzo, not Gonzo)
Both are very stylized and both styles are based on exaggerations in attempts to evoke familiar forms (Nazism, 50's lines, etc). The Star Wars movies are all indie films and have all been shot in ways considered unconventional at the time.
If you believe the text scroll before the movies, it even qualifies on the journalism part... -
old news
Google has merely reduced the broadcast news biz to its essentials. Very little reporting is performed by the news services; most is received from their wire service subscriptions. And even those stories are validated against what the other services run. They won't run maverick stories that run counter to the spin from the other news organizations. The classic analysis of this "pack journalism" is the fun read, The Boys on the Bus, by Hunter S. Thompson fellow-traveller Tim Crouse. Manufacturing consensus of the "official America" is a big, complex business, and Google is both simplifying it and tearing off its mask with their cross-reference engine.

Re:That IS amazing...
I had no idea that our thirty-third president was some kind of spacefaring cyborg.
Or, for that matter, the king of gonzo journalism. -
Fear and Loathing in AmsterdamWhy did Brown fly all the way to Europe to interview me and (and according to an email I got from his seat-mate on the plane) one other person in Scandinavia, at considerable expense, and not at least call Linus? Even if he made a really bad choice of phone company, how much could that cost?
Hmmm. Lets see.
- The author of a book of fiction presented in a non-fiction, documentary format...
- ...financed by some deep pockets...
- ...flies from puritanical Virginia/DC, USA to free-love/drugs (well, not entirely free) Amsterdam on someone else's dime...
- ...on the pretense of interviewing a professor...
- ...but is seen buttonholing college students in the hall on the way out...
- ...claiming to be sponsored by the
"Alexis de Toqueville" Institute.
Did Mssr. Brown, by any chance, bear a striking resemblance to
this man? - The author of a book of fiction presented in a non-fiction, documentary format...

Hells AngelsFor some reason I'm thinking that San Andreas is going to be akin to "Hells Angels" ala Hunter S. Thompson.
Think about it. Starts off in the bay area, works his way down south to LA... Drugs, guns, violence, et al. Perfect for Rockstar. Just throw in some movie references and music from the early 70's and your done!
Now, if they actually were to put Hunter's voice into the game...

Mental Picture
This is probably way off topic, but...
Ricochet provides seamless coverage across an entire city that works even when a user is traveling 70 miles per hour on a highway
Did anyone else get an image of Bill Murray in "Where the Buffalo Roam" driving down the highway at 70 MPH while banging away at a typewriter? Oh yeah, and folks think driving with cel phones are bad! -

Re:Security quote
And when was the last time you heard of any problems at Disneyland?
Apart from the numerous fatalities on the monorail and rides? Maybe the gangfights broken up by plainclothed security. Let's see... first gangfight in 1976, first recorded murder in 1981. Still, the Disneyland Security guys, backed up by hidden cameras play hardball , they're into handcuffing suspects to metal railings, lengthy interrogations etc. Don't try to enter if you have the wrong hair colour
What's amazing is that a place that caters for so many people has so few problems. But problems it has.

Re:what's a hellmouth?Good question. First time I heard the term I kept thinking it had something to do with Hunter S. Thompson.
