Sendmail Enabler for Mac OS X
gulker writes "It's really nice to be able to use sendmail as a SMTP server on a PowerBook if you move around a lot. But enabling sendmail on OS X is non-trivial, and while a good tutorial exists, the stock Mac OS X 10.2 package is missing the m4 macro processor needed to regenerate sendmail.cf. So it was great news to hear about Bernard Teo's Sendmail Enabler, a cool Aqua-GUI-interface sendmail 'configurator' for Mac OS X." -
Meet Cyveillancebot
gulker writes "A rant about making a new 'acquaintance'... Googlebot is like the UPS driver who comes to the door in a uniform, and will happily show you his ID and business card: Cyveillancebot is like a coarse, unshaven, itchy guy with his hat pulled down lurking near your half-open bedroom window. This after Cyveillance defeats a 'protection mechanism' - robots.txt - and grabs 155 copyrighted files from my Web server, which files it will presumably share with others, for a profit..." -

Are Blogging and Unemployment Related?
Roland Piquepaille writes "The Washington Post is really nice with bloggers. Yesterday, it carried an article named "Free Speech -- Virtually," or "Legal Constraints on Web Journals Surprise Many 'Bloggers'". Today, Cynthia L. Webb focuses on an hypothesis from Chris Gulker, which he exposed in a column published by The Independent, "The View from Silicon Valley: Bloggers come in from the cold." As said Chris Gulker, "Many of us are Webloggers 'bloggers' for short. It would be interesting to see if there's a correlation between the meteoric rise of blogging, the practice of keeping a frequently-updated online journal, and the rise of unemployment in Silicon Valley and other tech corridors. Check this column for a summary or the original article for more details." -
