Re:Creepy:
Let's be real, the vast, vast majority of torrent traffic is freeloaders participating in illegal piracy. A torrent on PirateBay is getting a lot more traffic then torrents for some rinky-dink Ubuntu ISO or free concert MP3 from some unsigned local band.
That's a myth. And movies at PirateBay like http://thepiratebay.org/details.php?id=3412481 "911 - Alex Jones: Martial Law 911 Rise of the Police State HQ" are legal to download, mr. Jones actually encourages everyone to share his movies. And there are many more sites where you can download using BitTorrent legally, like http://hardcoretorrents.com/ if you want adult entertainment. Seriously. BitTorrent piracy is a myth. Yes, there are a small percentage of files pirated using that protocol, just like http, ftp, e-donkey and other file transfer protocols can be abused.
I've yet to see any real numbers showing that "piracy" is the main usage for the BitTorrent protocol. -
Re:Environment impact free electricity ?
Environment impact free electricity ? Have you got some?
No. So sorry, like with a free-lunch, there is no such thing. But there are, obviously, some methods who are less damaging than others.
your house, bike etc. If you want to have a significant impact on saving the environment, I suggest killing yourself, because it will immediately and very effectively prevent the environmental damage you'll cause by your mere existance for the next 30 to 50 years (or however long you live).
Yes. I have very seriously considered killing myself for exactly those reasons. But I am egoistic, so I found that I will kill myself delayed: I am not going to have children.
That's the first time I've heard of environmental impact being used to justify the theft of other people's right to control the copying of their work.
I do not justify piracy nor participate in it. But what I said remains true. If you download a porn movie from http://xiando.com/ then you have NOT engaged in theft. We have the RIGHT to distribute a broad range of quality adult movies.. We do NOT have the right to distribute any mainstream movies because the mainstream movie industry are stuck in the 90s and think the CD and DVD have a long-term future, which they do not.
Are you next going to suggest robbing banks so that they can't give money to people because those people might then go and buy an SUV which has an environmental impact ?
Please actually read the original post and perhaps think before posting in the future. I never encouraged stealing, merely stated a fact. On-line distribution vs traditional DVD distribution HAS NOTHING to do with piracy. You can download a few movies free from http://hardcoretorrents.com/ and you can, if you like the free movies, sign up for five bucks and get access to thousands more quality porn movies. Five bucks. LEGAL. No violation of anything. This modell works for the adult industry, it works very well, and has done so for years. As I already stated in this thread, most adult industry have already switched to pure on-line distribution, where as the mainstream industry still thinks it is 1995.
I never said P2P is a good thing. I am just saying that the mainstream movie industry should provide a equally good legal alternative, just like the adult industry did years ago. -
Re:Oh goody.
It may be wrong to say Most people, given the choice, want to pay a reasonable price for a legit copy of something.. My understanding is that Most People want everything Free, but are willing to pay a reasonable price for a legit copy. This is why I agree with your arguments for what could be named the modern "Internet Home Video Distribution Protocol" (=bittorrent and such things).
But this has nothing to do with illegal movies. There may have been a few sites with illegal movies long ago but most such accusations against the innocent BitTorrent users are false claims and evil rumors spread by corporations who feel threatened by new technology and it is only a question of modern distribution vs traditional distribution. BitTorrent is not, and never way, in any way involved in MPAA or RIAA illegalities. http://hardcoretorrents.com/ and other BitTorrent sites are perfectly legal. -
Re:Oh goody.
What do you mean "the movie industry has few methods other than movie sales to generate a profit"?
Why can they not make huge piles of money using BitTorrent when the adult entertainment industry embraces and utilizes the supreme BitTorrent technology in order to generate sustainable, legal returns?
Could it be that the movie industry simply have failed to accept the new technological area we are in, and therefore also fail to understand that it is oh so incredibly wise to give away some content in order to sell other content which is available for download and purchase on-line?
Could it be that hard media technology like the CD and DVD are already replaced by BitTorrent and other on-line solutions?
The main-stream movie industry could be making a lot of money using BitTorrent and other P2P technology. The adult industry understood this years ago. Just look at http://hardcoretorrents.com/ and http://xiando.com/torrents/ to understand that BitTorrent can, when used wisely, be extremely good for you, your health and your shareholders.
I agree that all kind of illegal action is very bad. But no illegal action is indicated by a person having visited or used a website, even if some parts of that site may or may not have had illegal content. BitTorrent is a perfectly legal protocol and it is also perfectly legal to use BitTorrent sites, and this is specially true now because all the bad illegal torrent sites which once existed are now closed and shut down even though most of them were only trackers and did not host any illegal content at all. It is legal and safe and good for you to use BitTorrent and torrent sites and it can entertain you and make your life better. -
Re:I support it totally!
It is very simple. Bandwidth must be paid for. You can download a handfull adult movies using BitTorrent from http://hardcoretorrents.com/ or you can click the sponsors and pay $5 to download a huge variety of videos at full bandwidth. What you need to realize is that the adult content at that site, just like the games, must be produced and hence they must be payd for. You may hate that you must wait in line for 2 hours, sure, but think of this: You would not be able to download for free at all if it were not for the fact that some choose to pay and not wait.. no profit, no downloading.

Can you really ignore Google?
Google does use and respect the robots.txt tag and it is no problem to ask it not to index folders on your personal site. If someone is illegally using your content then it is the persons providing it who are the problem, not the spider that mirrors the site. Spiders may carry illegal and copyrighted content, yes, but since spiders tend to drop the cached eventually if the original site goes down, the problem is still best solved by removing the site with the bad content.
I personally use a smooth .htaccess to prevent anyone and thing from using my images without having the right url as referrer. This is easy to do and perfect for preventing other sites of linking directly to given file types like swf, jpg and png.
How you and your content appear in search engines is entirely up to you.
Some porn providers actually encourage you to to use their content under some license terms, this is how I got the content for the instant wank galleries at hardcoretorrents.com. Perhaps the porn provider just needs to provide the content they feel other people are violating under better terms?
Why anyone would be foolish enough to ask to be removed from Google is something I do not understand. The hits generated from them, at least according to my logs, is extremely valuable and important. More visitors, more income is true in most cases. And my logs clearly indicate that if I was to be removed from Google, then the number of daily visitors at my torrent site bt.g.la and other sites would go down. It's that simple.
