One of My Favorite Internet Rants
As someone who uses (and relies upon) the Internet regularly, I don't share this person's views, but they make some extremely good points.
Many of these same points could be applied to eBooks vs. paper books.

Re:Interesting link on the history of HTML5
Here's a good read on why the Internet is shit:

Re:roughlydrafted.com article == blog entry? It's 2007, and you're only just now figuring out that the internet isn't journalism?
Glad to have you back from your coma. It's a good line, and I can laugh along with it - and there's more truth to it than I'd probably like, since after all the Internet is Shit
But it looks to me like you too differentiate between what's to be found in blogs and what's to be found elsewhere, so I don't think I'm *that* far off base.

Re:Uh, "the wisdom of the crowds"?

oh noes!!!! - teh land is running 0ut!11!
So people are buying virtual land which has been artificially restricted. Only in 21st century 'RealLife' could this concern people. What happens if Linden Labs allows a virtually infinite map, or gateways to private SL world servers? And why would any sane person give a shit?

Reality Check
The internet is shit
Seriously, why is such a big deal being made of blogging?

Re:Jerk, yes; criminal, no.
As others said, just because you can't google it doesn't mean it's not true. I ran a legally purchased DRDOS (don't remember the version number) which wouldn't run my legally purchased Windows 3.1 (OEM).
I also ran GeoWorks Ensemble which looked and worked great, but as I mainly played games and programmed in Turbo Pascal at that time, I didn't have much use for a GUI and ditched the pirated copy in favour of my legal Win 3.1 I only started up for the occasional letter/homework or showing it off to people. So I can't confirm the Geoworks problem myself (must have been MSDOS 5 at that time), but I definitely had the DRDOS problem which was a shame because it offered native task switching and great memory management that was *way* ahead of its time. -
Sad state of the Interweb....
I'm not sure if anyone else has posted this idea yet, 'cause I'm way too lazy and tired to read the whole discussion, so I'm just throwing this out there....
It seems kind of sad and pathetic that we need something that "checks incoming mail against the address books of your friends" in an effort to get rid of email from complete strangers....
The internet was supposed to, among a thousand other things that are now long forgotten, get strangers together who shared common bonds of interest or study. Hobbies, ideas, whatever...

Re:Arrrgggh
Yeah great, so if this ever gets off the ground you want to block large portions of the world from ever visiting some stupid towns website?
... come to think of it, thats not such a bad idea! maybe if we make all the stupid websites use stupid characters in their domain names the internet will no longer be shit, sort of like a filter -
