Personally, I want to see the Cheney tracker app. See where he's been, where he currently is, and where he's going later tonight, and in the future.

Re:That's the least of the problems with Iran todaFrom iranfocus.com
"Iran should stop executing children"
Bad, but we try an increasing number of childern as adults, and states keep lowering the age at which children can be tried as adults. There is no bullshit like this in the US, where a 16 year old girl is executed on "vague charges of un-Islamic behaviour." That is why people are so abhorred by Iran's executions.
A gang of 16 year olds who beat a homeless guy to death is a different animal than a 16 year old girl who is raped but doesn't have 4 male witnesses to testify on her behalf. So let's not equate all "child" executions. "Iran hangs three in south-west"
We are in good company here, not only do we execute plenty of people, but don't we have the highest per capita incarceration rate in the world? I don't know how you leapt from hanging in Iran to "incarceration rate" in the US. This page, though not about Iran specifically, says the highest execution rates in the world are in China, Iran, Pakistan, and Iraq. Do you see the US in that list?
In any case, like I said above, it's not the fact that people are being executed (oh noes) but WHAT they are executed for. Plenty of people in the US feel that a guy who rapes and murders children ought to be executed. I'm not saying every execution is that clear-cut, but I *am* saying that's the side of the spectrum the US is on. In Iran, you get executed for being a girl who was raped, criticizing Islam, etc. Do you see how that is different from the US? "Western countries on Thursday voiced concern at the rising number of executions in Iran"
Didn't Bush and Texas execute a horrific number in his term as governer?
Most of the rest of the statements on this site are about public hangings. At least they have the honesty to execute people in public, in this country we hide from our executions, so people never really 'know' in a gut sense what they are paying for. Yeah they're so HONEST, that's really great. Oh, and do they give a crap about making executions more humane by not causing the person to have undue suffering? I guess they're too honest for that too! Somehow I'm reminded of Mark Antony. To quote Jesus:(approx.)
"Remove the beam from your own eye before you worry about the splinter in your neighbors eye" That's a fair approximation. Do you know what the words "beam" and "splinter" mean? That is referring to when you have a HUGE problem but you ignore it and focus on your neighbor's minor problem. So do you think the judicial system in the US is, say, 10 times worse than in Iran? If so, you've been drinking too much of the communion wine. -

Re:"No threat"
Iran will not attack its neighbors or the U.S.
Who modded this tripe insightful? Iran has repeatedly threatened & the US with destruction either directly or through it's avowed support of hezbollah. -
Re:Not a great idea.Huh? You think it is OK for
"woman being battered" in a few of the middle eastern countries
Sorry, I draw the line when _any_ human is hurt for "religious" purposes. I am a Christian, but I am the first to detest any "reason" to harm another human. The muslim acceptance of women being "inferior" and that it is OK to kill them while only lashing the man is barbaric. And while I think adultery is wrong, it certainly shouldn't result in death. If only more of
And what would your "army" fight for? The killing of innocent women? Beating women who want an education? Killing women who commit adultery? As a former US Marine, I can tell you that there would be _plenty_ of other US Marines and Royal Marines who would kick the Sh!t out of your "army" if they tried to commit these types of actions against our fellow humans. /. thought this way we could have an army -
Re:Not a great idea.
woman being battered" in a few of the middle eastern countries. Sure, I think its wrong, like anyone. But that's *my* belief, not necessarily theirs.
This whole worship of cultural relativism makes me sick. How can it be anything but unacceptable that people are beaten and horribly discriminated against just because they happen to be a female? My god people. The intellectual dishonesty is just amazing.
Oh, and woman aren't just "battered".
Iranians and international community expressed outrage at reported execution of the 16-year-old Ateqeh Rajabi on vague charges of un-Islamic behaviour.
However, informed sources revealed that Ms. Ateqeh was sentenced to death by the judge, a cleric, because during the "trial", she expressed outrage at the misogyny and injustice in the Islamic Republic and its Islam-based judicial system.
"The lower court judge was so incensed by her protestations that he personally put the noose around her neck after his decision had been upheld by the Supreme Court", the sources reported.
Plenty of pictures. They string her up using a standard construction crane and leave her their hanging for everyone to see.
Friday 27 August 2004 in the Germany-based internet newspaper Iran Emrooz, Dr. Hoseyn Baqer Zadeh, an Iranian human rights activist observed that the laws of the Islamic Republic are the "most inhuman, segregationist, insulting and discriminatory" against women. -
Re:The Great Hollowing Out MythIf the US were flush with oil in 1973, as your anecdote seems to suggest, then why is it that people were forced to wait in long lines for oil? Perhaps (and I'm speculating) it was due to a large increase in demand for Alaskan oil due to the embargo. This rush of demand went beyond the usual Alaskan production/delivery capacity (evidenced by the full refinery tanks, as well as the apparent overuse of tankers taking up slack for the pipeline). However the high prices of oil in the US would make this extra and more expensive production worthwhile. As far as worldwide production goes, this is not incredibly surprising. OPEC did not cut production, they imposed an embargo. Their production which usually went to the US was sent to other parts of the world, making up for lack of exports of US oil which was staying in the US.
Interesting that you call my refer to my argument as a "rational axiomatic argument" but later as faith. Rational argument requires axiomatic foundation. Futher the axioms which I base my argument on have been proven time and time again through econometric analysis. You claim that I follow some sort of faith leading me to believe that speculative markets result in efficent pricing, but you offer no evidence to the contrary.
I'll defend Enron the day that you defend Dahmer. The executives of Enron commited a crime plain and simple, this does not mean that capitalist systems are fatally flawed no more than serial killers mean that humanity is.
When did Israel threaten this? I assume it was a long time ago, since google shows that Israel was estimated to have at most 20 nukes until the early 80s. The estimate has since been revised to >100. My search also turned up this gem I seriously doubt Israel would follow through on this threat. Especially given Israel's latest posturing, attempting to completely isolate itself from the rest of the mideast. OTOH the threat of terror attacks on oil production facilities is real and has already been fulfilled.
My point with the tariffs (which admittedly was not well made) was that a marginal scaling of a supposedly optimal system of tariffs would necessarily result in a system no worse than the original because both countries would symmetrically benefit. But when scaled to zero the new system would have to be better due to the d in transaction costs.
"I do not like large public stock corporations" Thats a shocker
:). My reference to communism was meant as an analogy not an epithet. Your reference to the IMF impels me to trolling: I think the IMF is a good organization.
