IV melts the hearts of all skeptics.
Funny how this question yields this much conversation. I got my father interested with IV - Voyage home. It was the one that got me interested a couple of years ago. And now i'm at the point of owning complete collection minus the Abrams movie - And i have starfleet insignia tattooed on my chest: http://mirosol.kapsi.fi/varasto/badge.jpg

Re:power saving tip: disable the optical drive
Except one doesn't have to go through those extra steps when using Windows which is kind of the point.
Your point is correct, too.
There are some Linux distros which are quite battery-friendly, but the more popular/capable ones (Suse, Ubuntu, etc.) leave quite a few daemons running which should be shut down to preserve battery. Prime candidates are some network services (but perhaps not all of them), and optical disk polling. Here's a link to a script which allows you to stop/start a few specific groups of services, giving a notable effect on battery life. http://unksi.kapsi.fi/powersave.sh I am not the author of the script.
But you are right (FWIW we're Linux-only at home). Linux should include a few start/stop options for services in a simple power management GUI for laptops. It should not be necessary to write shell scripts, or to become an expert in configuration files, just to get decent battery life. -
Re:100 Million Horny Men
Germany promised to filter child porn from the internet, one wonders if they will do as great a job as in finland.

A list of what is actually getting filtered
Some time ago, some dude compiled a list of the sites that are being filtered in Finland: (German is in cooperation Norway concerning this filter):
http://maraz.kapsi.fi/sisalto-en.html
Let me quote:
Content breakdown:
The list features 1047 sites, nine of which have been confirmed to contain child porn. Only one of these hosts it â" the same one that Matti Nikki reported more than a year ago!
251 pages, roughly a quarter of the whole, contain gay porn. Only 4 contain lesbian porn.

Re:Other phones too ?
I just switched to a Nokia 6133 using t-mobile, and I've set things up so the laptop connects to the phone via bluetooth, and I set up a normal PPP connection using GPRS/EDGE. I also have the cable, but it is more convenient to use bluetooth (however, I discovered when my house lost power for 5 days and I needed to check email, that the bluetooth drains the battery much faster). I do have to subscribe to the unlimited data service on t-mobile, and speed depends on whether I can get GPRS or EDGE. Here is one such site that documents how to set things up. http://koti.kapsi.fi/mcfrisk/linux_gprs.html

Straightening out some facts
1) Not all ISPs use DNS-based filtering - for example the aforementioned DNA Finland, which uses proxy-based filtering, which in turn is a lot more difficult to bypass.
2) W3C is, AFAIK, still being blocked by MPY.
3) On the first version of the list, less than 1% of the sites were child pornography. Coincidently, a lot of the rest were gay porn.
This is, of course, not at all related to the general opinion on gay people in Finland - in fact, we've already gone half a century without a single forced castration of a gay man!
Boy, does my country make me proud or what.

The checked list
The checked list is available here: http://maraz.kapsi.fi/sisalto.html
The tags used are explained more thoroughly in Finnish, but luckily they seem pretty self-explanatory for us internetizens. If you can't be bothered to check, it shows that only nine of the 1047 listed sites definitely have child pornography on them. -
It varies.
The brightness varies quite a bit; sometimes they are rather faint, but at best they're really rather spectacular. Probably related at least to the angle of reflection and the brightness of the background sky.
Here in southern Finland they are rather common sight near late July / early August.
This shot (and others in the same directory) which I took last year is IMO rather close to how they looked to my own eyes:

The sky is not dark because at that time of year, twilight is as dark as it ever gets.
