Microsoft uses monopoly power again
Microsoft has a new campaign: Force your clients to use Internet Explorer and you'll get a free copy of Windows NT server. Why would anyone do that if they can get a free copy of Linux server/firewall/workstation/...? Maybe because if it's already free it doesn't seem like an opportunity not to be missed? -
Linux 2.1.94 Released
Linus, being the kind hearted developer he is, decided to release Linux 2.1.94 to the usual place. Only a few KB away from 11MB, updates include sound documentation, MAJOR sound updates, and init fixes for those having trouble with 2.1.93 on non-x86 platforms. -
Linux 2.1.93
Linus, being the generous saint he, tossed out kernel 2.1.93 at the normal place. At almost 11MB zipped, updates include many architechture-specific bugfixes, IDE updates, NIC and PCI updates, and many FS and SCSI fixes. -
Daily GNOME, GIMP and Gtk RPMS out of CVS
Miguel de Icaza writes "Red Hat labs has setup a daily process that takes the latest versions of GNOME, GIMP and Gtk out from the GNOME cvs server and makes rpms for people to try gnome without having to manually install all of the required packages. " You can read about this over at RHAD labs. -
Linux 2.1.92 Released
Linus was kind enough to release Linux 2.1.92 to the world tonight. Updates include major ISDN updates, many Alpha and x86 updates, x86 configure scripts updated, NCR SCSI updates, many FS updates, and major include file updates. And only 46.1MB unzipped. Update Linus also announced a feature freeze, so lets hammer those bugs out and get 2.2.0 ready. -
Linux 2.1.90
Can it be? Another kernel is available at the Usual Places. Its a 264k patch so I'm sure lots of neat stuff has been fixed, and lots of equally neat stuff has been broken *grin*. Anyone have word on a feature freeze for 2.2? Thanks to Dave Wiedenheft who sent this in first. -
Linux 2.1.87 Released
Linus released 2.1.87 to the world, just minutes ago. Major changes include *MAJOR* m68k updates, many SCSI and sound updates, and UFS and UMSDOS updates, in addition to other changes. You can get it here. -
Linux 2.1.86 Released
Oh boy. A new kernel. Major updates include IPv4 and IPNG (IPNG) updates, AX.25 updates, ELF header files for all platforms, updates for almost all 3Com cards, and a few Alpha boot fixes. -

New Kernel
Thanks to the several of you who wrote in to let me know that Linus has released the 2.1.79 kernel- an over 700k patch. Wowsers. Grab it from the usual spots. -
Linux 2.1.78 Released
Linus does it again! Version 2.1.78 of the Linux kernel has been released. Get it @ kernel.org. Some improvements are: HFS support, init fixes, and many sound and SCSI updates. Beware: apparently, make xconfig will not work.
