ZDNet Talks to Kevin Mitnick
An anonymous reader writes "Notorious hacker turned security consultant Kevin Mitnick touches on a myriad of issues ranging from law enforcement to Microsoft in a short interview with ZDNet. My favorite part is when he's asked if in his mind, Microsoft is a leader and the rest are still catching up. Mitnick answers: 'I am waiting for a case where a software maker gets sued for releasing buggy code, but they will probably cover their ass with the long license agreements that nobody ever reads.'" -
Ask Kevin Mitnick
Okay, Kevin Mitnick is getting back online and can start taking email tomorrow, January 21. We've spoken with Kevin by phone, and he agrees that a Slashdot interview is a fine way to help celebrate his return to the Internet, especially since he has a book to sell and a consulting business to build. (Don't forget: Kevin hasn't been able to make much money for a number of years, and has a lot of lost time to make up for.) One question per post, please. We'll email Kevin 10 of the highest-moderated questions, and post his answers shortly after he gets them to us. -

Kevin Mitnick Miramax protest
netweasel writes "There was a protest at the NYC Miramax building about the upcoming release of the film version of TAKEDOWN: The Kevin Mitnick story. As the book was full of lies and half truths, so is the movie script. As one of the only hopes Kevin has is public support, this movie is sure to damage that. An example of how the movie makes him out to be Hannibal Lector, Mitnick never met Shatsumora in real life. Yet in the movie script he clobbers him over the head with a trash can in the alleys of Seattle. Protesters rallied in front of the building, and a funny story that emereged was that Kevin Bacon was at the offices that day. A full story and photos can be seen at here"
