you are 100% right. Slashdot seems to be anti-everything-but-linux. Or at least the most vocal crowd (of which most come from *.edu.. or so it seems).
Also, have you seen this article? She made one mistake... FreeBSD can run linux apps through emulation (possibly faster than linux runs them) and if your application comes with source code, it can pretty much run anywhere. -
