SpoofingHey,
Nace also said that when pressed by one of Nace's co-workers, the UUNet staffer told the co-worker that he was "stupid for not using cloaking software," to hide the IP address of his outgoing mail.
Well, nace was stupid for not constructing fake packets, but any URL has to point to his website in any case, and the URL kinda identifies the account.
Some send a reply, with the subject "remove" in the header, looking to escape from future mailings. Some add death threats, Nace said... Nace takes exception to being called a spammer, a term he associates with pornographers. UUNet's reaction, he said, was unwarranted. "This is a clear-cut case of the big corporations telling the small operator, 'screw you.' "
As oppoosed to, say, a clear-cut case of the big corporations enforcing thier terms of service, whilst people who have been sent spam say 'screw you', or maybe 'I will personally hunt you down and gouge out your eyes with my Leatherman'.
On a more seroius note, why don't UUNet say 'After ten complaints from demonstratably different parties, your connection will be suspended whilst we investigate'? That would allow near-instant shutdown with big UCE incidents.

Re:Do they do a Left Handed version?
It says in the article that they don't have aleft handed version, but are considering one.
Yeah, of course the're "considering one". If they manage to sell gobs and gobs of these things, they might make a left-handed one.
Leatherman's said the same thing about The Wave. The Wave's impossible to do the uber-sexy, one-handed draw with your left hand. I'm left-handed, but mouse with my right. Guess I get to use a Claw, but not the Wave.
(Well, I use a Wave, but as cool as I might. :) ) -
My present list...Hey,
Here's my present list:
Mobile phone: Ideally the 9110 or 9110i. If that's not availiable, I'll take a Matrix-esque 7110.
I wouldn't mind a Creative DAP Jukebox. Storage for 100 hours of MP3s (But only enough power to play them for about 5 hours).
I'll also take a Kawasaki Ultra 150 Jet Ski (Only £7,245!).
I wouldn't mind a BURN-proof 12x10x32 CD-RW drive.
Every slashdotter I know yould use one of These.
Leatherman Wave Multi-tools are nice, if I didn't already have one.
Want a rack for all your CDs? I'll have a Rolodisc rack. Cool!
If we're allowed whole new systems, I'll take an SGI 550 workstation, with the dual 866 MHz Pentium III Xeon processors and 2 gigs or ram, please.
I'll also have an Ergoview Task chair with headrest.
Since CmdrTaco's paying, I'll have a Panasonic Portable DVD player (Massive 7" widescreen LCD screen!).
If you have any spage change after that, $13,999.95 will get you (Well, me actually. We do GET this stuff, don't we?) a 16:9 Wide, 42" Diagonal Flat-Panel Plasma SDTV-Compatible Monitor. Cool!
A Radio Deadbolt would be cool (US only though :-( )
Head-mount Night-vision goggles would be nice.
This summer, I will mainly be avoiding traffic jams in my Armoured Hummer. I'll take the Scorpion III as well - it's cool.
$3,199 is enough for a nice Sony Digital video camera.
An SP9004 spud gun is on my list too, and a cair of Glasstron goggles. Nice!
Well, I'm going out now. If any karma whores would like to check out my links and use thier 1337 copy and paste skills in case there are errors, you can go right ahead.

A Leatherman.Forget all the electronic stuff. What I really want for Xmas is a Leatherman. (No, not a sweaty guy in leather. Look here.) Every geek should own one, and do a hobby away from the keyboard for a while.
Failing that, I'd like free unlimited bandwidth website hosting for a year, and a puppy.

Never going to replace my Leatherman.
It's never going to replace my Leatherman.
And, on a different note. I found out upon going to Switzerland that the locals all agree that Wenger is the Genuine Swiss Army Knife.
I think it's odd that even on their page where they sell the cybertool they mention it as an novelty.

a good hacker has a good toolbox...But when it comes down to it, having the single correct tool always beats any mutli-tool that will be ever made.
I was thinking about purchasing a Leatherman Wave a while back, but I balked when I saw the $70 price tag. I purchased the micra for $15 instead, and for a little bit more cash ($250) I got myself a good toolbox and a nice set of tools. When I don't have my toolbox around, the micra might come in handy, but like the guy said, having the correct tool always beats using a multi-tool.
What every good hacker should have in their toolbox:
- flashlight
- working gloves
- flat head screw drivers (3 sizes)
- philips screw drivers (2 sizes)
- a set of mini-screw drivers
- pliers (various)
- hammer
- pen, pencil, notepad
- ratchet set
- electrical tape, duct tape, drafting tape
- tape measure
- level (comes in handy sometimes)
- wire strippers
- flush cutters (also called diagonal cuttters)
- a drill with screwdriver bits (a must)
- assorted computer tools (RAM pullers, etc.)
Obviously there is more I could add to this, but this is a start. If you are gonna spend $100 for a multi-purpose tool, considering making additions to your toolbox instead.

Leatherman Wave?
If I'm not mistaken, a Leatherman is one of those Swiss-army type gadgets, only it has quite a few more useful things in it, like pliers & whatnot. Definitely useful for the true geek who's forced to take his computer (and other things) apart a lot
:) (Check www.leatherman.com for more info).
