What happened to reboot.fcc.gov?
So this leaves me wondering what happened to the http://reboot.fcc.gov/ initiative announced back in January which was built using Liferay ( http://www.liferay.com/ )

Liferay
Their code isn't perfect and they do push the Enterprise pay-support version pretty hard, but liferay portal or liferay social office should suit your needs with the added bonus that the sharepoint compatible web services let you edit files in place. It combines basically every useful open source java project (jackrabbit, lucene, axis, etc) and gives you a nice clean interface that I hate on hard, but sure looks like a lot of what's trendy in web design right now. Definitely worth a look because the demos run easily without any installation and it's very easy to extend even without any java programming.

Have you considered Liferay at all (http://www.liferay.com)? MIT License, open source, java based. You can download it on tomcat and run it without any configuration (using hypersonic) or configure your own database for it (mysql, oracle, postresql, whatever) pretty easily. Free as in beer and speech. In the interest of openness, I am a Liferay employee. I also use Windows, OS X, and Kubuntu with it on a daily basis. It has wikis, message boards, a document repository, web content management, basically anything you would need for a collaborative portal. It also supports multiple communities so you can create different sections for different user groups, ldap connectivity, and many other things. See here for our two offerings: http://www.liferay.com/products Social office is a simple one stop shop for inter office collaboration, Liferay Portal is the same but with a lot more power. It all depends on your needs.

Re:Look in the mirror
Yes it does matter for software. Moving from system to system IS A MAJOR PAIN and very expensive.
And Yes going to Slashdot is just dumb.
Why is it dumb?
Because if you don't treat FOSS as a professional system to start with why should anybody believe you.
So what this guy should have done is go the the Drupal website and then found this page. http://drupal.org/cases
Golly gee case studies about how Drupal can be used. Just like you would find at any closed source vendors site.
Interested in Liferay?
Guess what they sell it with support. It is still FOSS but I bet you a dollar that if you contact them they have many case studies and other sales tools that they can provide you.
If you just want some more case studies...

Merry Christmas. Here is your clue. -
How about this
Drupal case studies.
http://drupal.org/casesAnd for Liferay

Re:Never used it myself.
What do you mean?
Liferay portal http://www.liferay.com/ is up there with the best, Open Source, and Java.
(Also InfoWorld's 2007 Technology Of The Year Award, "Best Open Source Portal") -
Re:www.OpenSourceCMS.com invaluable"I found the http://www.opensourcecms.com/ site to be invaluable when choosing a replacement CMS"
But they only show a subset of CMS's. According ot the site:
"There are a number of reasons why many CMS's aren't featured at opensourceCMS.com. The main reason being we only deal with php/mysql systems. If it's not php/mysql it won't be featured here. Also, if the system requires php5 it won't be featured here, yet. " (OpenSourceCMSSo the name is misleading, as there are several excellent/powerful Open source CMS options that are not listed here becuase they are not written with PHP. Things like Plone or Liferay.
These are examples of robust, high-quality, Open Source CMS's that you will not find at that site. And it is seems a mistake for most people, when asking the question "What is the best Open Source CMS" to only consider "the best Open Source CMS's written in PHP 4."
