Walgreens PureDigital Camera Hacked

Codeman, the same guy who brought us the I-Opener hack, found a way to add a standard Smartmedia interface to the Walgreens camera and extract images with a standard Smartmedia reader. Links to sample images showing the camera's quality are included." -

3COM's Ergo Audrey Hacked
It looks like the 3COM Ergo Audrey hacking scene is finally taking off. A guy named Sowbug has hacked the 3COM Ergo Audrey to shell. He has pictures of it here(1) and here(2). Another site has opened to cover this hack, here(3). And of course the Linux Hacker messageboards are covering it quite a bit. -
Netpliance Pays Up For False Advertising And More
The Dev writes: "According to this story Netpliance 'greed to pay a civil penalty of $100,000 and reimburse some customers who had been charged Internet access fees before they used the service.' This is probably in response to their tactics after it was discovered that the I-Opener made a cool portable Linux workstation." It didn't take after the realization of its possibilities as a slim linux box for Netpliance to start charging people whether or not they signed up for their service. -
50-Dollar Hackable "WebSurfer"
evilviper pointed us to a new hack on LinuxHacker. Last time it was the i-opener, but this time its the WebSurfer. It's 50 bucks and can be had at CompUSA. They show it booting Linux among other things. Has a wireless keyboard, a real (non win) modem, and a Cyrix CPU. Looks perfect for voiding warranties. -
Flat Panel Linux Box for $99?
A reader writes "Found an interesting site which describes a hack to modify the $99 Iopener internet appliance to be able to run Linux. Flat panel LCD display, small footprint, 56K (non-win)modem. No ethernet, but a built-in parallel port (for PLIP?). Just add 2.5" HD. The perfect X terminal! "
