    Your rhetorical question is really not that obvious to others. Do you imply there should be root passwords? Or administrator accounts with sudo? Default setups take both approaches and it is not very probable all previous admins did chnage that to some standard way of working... What about routers and other network gear? What about a password to at least one sudoers account in order to manage accounts?

    Just to show there is some debate: Sudo vs Root, although I prefer the sudo approach.

    CA Cert gets much of the attention in the discussion of open source CAs, but StartCom has made more progress in gaining browser support (and hence market acceptance). StartCom certs are supported by Firefox 2.0. CACert has been working on inclusion in Firefox for several years, and appears to be getting close. Mozilla has stepped up its staff effort to review certificate authorities for inclusion in Firefox/Mozilla, including CACert.

    Perhaps this is also an answer to the efforts of the StartCom CA. At this article there is a nice explanation about this...Which doesn't mean, that StartCom can't provide the necessary extensions in the future. With 43 % of market share in Germany and other European countries, Firefox is far away from suffering on the hands of Verisign and MS!

    I would just like to take a second to thank the /. community for the slew of Linux learning related articles that have surfaced over the past few weeks. I really can't stress how useful they've been in preparing me for the switch.

    A few weeks ago there was one article here that linked to three useful books for learning linux, and I'd just like to link to that for anyone else interested:

    I picked up Linux: Rute User's Tutorial and Exposition and I have to say it's been a great read so far.
