Check Online Coding Authorities & Communities
I think it is the best to check actual trends in coding industry, and you'll have the best insights if you visit some online community about coding, or check number of posts/projects done in particular programming language. My advice is to use this page : https://www.livecoding.tv/learn/ and pick your favorite between most popular languages (with most projects & money). Good luck and let the force be with you!

Re:.NET programmers have been waiting years
I've been having a blast. I work at Microsoft on C#. But now that it's all open-source, I did things completely differently...
I had an idea for a new C# language feature (more efficient async, saves up to 90% allocation in some benchmarks). I discussed it first on github with the public. Then I forked the official C# repository into my personal github account, did all the coding live on livecoding.tv. Once it was finished I took it to the official C# Language Design Team, who approved it. And it'll be in C#7!

TIOBE counting wrong
Seriously if you check the details how TIOBE calculates the popularity of languages. It's like I search for Swift, and count in all Taylor Swift occurences. I guess they are missing a space after Java, so they also count all Javascript occurences. I mean the link https://www.livecoding.tv/ shows like 20k videos for Java (which exists over 10 years) and 40k for JavaScript, and 10k for Swift
.. go figure. Just because people have Java installed, doesn't mean they use it, take a look at Debian users for example: https://qa.debian.org/popcon-g... Around 15000 installations, but recently used not even 150, not even 1 %!!!! -
Re:Kids today...
Hello, sure I can explain further. From your original comment I gather you read the Story: http://thenextweb.com/insider/... . Notice the first 2 words are "Live" and "Coding", combined together in the form of a Hyperlink. When clicked, said Hyperlink takes the reader directly to another document, in this particular case, Live Coding. Hope that helps.

Re:Some? Who?
I live stream 100% of my commercial/indie game development (coding), and yes I'm a professional/commercial developer. Source code is rarely precious once it's out in the world.
Executing on your ideas faster and more efficient then your competition is where the money is.

Re:2 thoughts
As someone who live streams development 6+ hours a day, 7 days a week, you get more benefit then just talking out loud to something that can not respond. Rubberducking is great, but when the duck can talk back it enhances the process. Sure, the responses might not be correct or on point but it will force you to rethink how you are describing your problem. As to watching live streaming. Why do you assume you can do just one at a time, watch or do? I stream to about 100 people nightly, and many of those people are actually working on their own project(s) with me on in the background as a support/comfort/buddy layer. It's tremendous motivation to keep working away, and not just turn on netflix. It probably doesn't hurt that I'm constantly talking on my stream about what is going on, or how I'm helping a viewer with a development issue. Check it out sometime, if you think you have enough time on your hands, http://www.twitch.tv/whilke | http://www.livecoding.tv/whilk... ( I dual stream, pick your favorite service).
