Hehe, I suppose I should link to my friend's rendition of the farse
(sorry, shameless plug I know) -
Re:Unfortunatley.
Coming up with something new and making it popular is not at all easy. My friend and I work on this comic. I'd say its different from the funny papers but also different from most of the webcomics that are out there right now. Sure we have a decent readership but we aren't bursting our bandwidth caps or anything like that.
A unique comic is very lucky if it gets a lot of readers that stick around, unfortunatly most people stick with what they know. -
Re:sure, sure.
Actually its 37.4
Okay sorry, shameless plug mode off. -
Re:Better stories...
but more along the same lines as Clive Cussler, Douglas Adams, or Neil Stephenson.
Douglas Adams? You're comparing manga to the Douglas Adams??? I help with an online comic that is in partly inspired by Hitchhikers (just inspired the story is no where near the same). And even we don't claim to have literacy standards anywhere near Douglas Adams.
Don't get me wrong while manga is not really a style I enjoy, some of it is quite good in terms of stories and in artwork, but Douglas Adams was perhaps one of the greatest writers in our time, comparing him to manga is like comparing Archie to Shakesphere. -
Contest on another site --
On a somewhat related note this really cool site (okay so I'm a bit biased) is trying to promote other good web-comics and its own new community with a web comic contest
You're welcome to sign up yourself if you like. We get a decent amount of traffic so you could get some exposure (as well as some other things, check it out :) ) -

Story and Style
It depends on the artist. A friend of mine and I do a webcomic he draws in black and white because he has a rough unfinished like kind of style and the comic is supposed to resemble an low budget movie. (thus things don't look 'real').
On the weekends I draw the directors of 'the movie' and they are in color as they are in the 'real world'.
Plus black and white does usually produce a smaller image size for those of us who pay for our bandwidth and hosting services but I digress.
