Sometimes I wonder if....some technologies like nanotech, and AI will have to be as closely guarded as "the bomb." They'll be factors that determine the super-powers of the future, (along with biotech.)
Imagine what a well-trained terrorist group could do with nanotechnology.

Are you concerned..That INTERNET II is going to make the web a purely commercial marketplace?
Let me explain. Right now any Joe Schmoe can put up a web site, and have the potential to serve 100,000 pages a day. When INTERNET II comes along, we'll all be competing with expanded rich multimedia content, FMV, etc... that only large corporations have the ability to do right. HTML won't cut it anymore.
Will this kill the nature of the internet as we know it?

Re:Clearly The Way Things Are Going-WHAT?Fewer screwups? You really think a competetive price-per-pound marketplace, with...say 15-20 corporations all racing to be the first to put thier flag on Asteriod 37-D is going to have fewer screwups than the Gov?
I'll bet we're looking at somethign simialr to the industiral revolution in space. Corporations will exploit the fuzzyness of space-law for profit, and people will be the ones who suffer.

I hope no one finds the bigmonolith I buried up there.

For some reasonit makes aol's search results very unreliable.
I noticed recently in my site's logs that we get hits from people searching "child porn" on our site. I checked out AOL and found we're listed first when you perform that search. We don't have anything to do with it. What's up?

Methinksthere is much more to this story and meets the eye.
The charges are much too vague. Something else
went on behind the scenes. Wait about a year,
and we'll hear all about it.tcd004

Quashing Deep linking....would destory the web as a researchers medium. We'd all be relegated to using pay-per use research outlets like Lexus-nexus.

Who is liable? You said that this:
allows information to be published and read without fear of censorship because individual documents cannot be traced to their source...I'm all for an open forum for free speech, but this seems almost reckless. In most venues of speech, accountability for someone's words is fundamental. The internet has opened up the possiblity of free speech without accountability to a small degree, and look at what has happened. Do you fear any legal reprocussions to your group for creating this forum based on this fact?

This is tied to the last thread.Sure, the DCSS is protected code, and the links are protected, but my understanding of the law would be that anyone who uses the code is in violation of the law.

Viri, cracks, etc.could fall under the moniker of harmful speech.
In other words, you can say all you want. You can swing your arms around all you want, but as soon as you hit somebody, you've got to pay the price.
Viri and cracks hit someone everytime they're run.

Luxury hotel in space.I think these investors are insane. They'll never overcome the bad rep mir has for springing leaks.
I know people will pay millions to go into space, but not on something they perceive to be totally unsafe.
Then again people will pay tens of thousands to climb everest.

Sorry Guys. Not that I'm happy about it, but I think we're a long way from a post-microsoft world. Even if Judge Jackson passes down the harshest ruling possible, Microsft still has it's software running on a huge percentage of the world's computers. They may have to take a step back in their development, but they'll find ways around any injunctions, just as the baby bells have.

I am in awe of apple's hardware/software integration. I don't know of any company who does it better. Not even PALM.

This May be A Dumb Question. Why is apple doing this. I think it's great. In
fact, I think it's groundbreaking for a company
who has 7? to 12? percent of the OS share
in the world to open it's foundation, but why?My guesses are:
1. It's great pr in the geek world.
2. It could lead to a broader programmer base for
apple drivers, os enhancements, etc.
3. It will bring back some of Steve Job's Hair.
Why?
