Re:Seriously
When will emacs or vim be available for Mac???
You mean like they already are?
Python packages are also a huge problem on a Mac. It is not like setuptools exist for Mac OS X....
Do you just just not know how to google that shit?
Also, when I develop for the web I always format all my devices to HFS+. I will never use FTP or SAMBA as they do not work on Mac.
What on earth?! Are you suggesting you can't just FTP from or to a Mac? Are you trying to mount a Mac drive as a Samba share? why?

I get the joke...
Macs never get vi

Re:I think Microsoft is more concerned...
I'm pretty happy with Vim
;)
Seriously, I've found NeoOffice enough to manage the daily flow of doc/xls/ppt files. I mostly view those files, the exception being Excel spreadsheets I routinely send to other departments. The spreadsheets are dumps of SQL queries, which I can produce as CSV and later import in OO Calc, or run under Parallels a Windows 2000 instance (pretty snappy in my Macbook) and EMS SQL Manager for MySQL to get the report straight as an Excel file (and character encoding issues are handled better). -
Macvim
You mean like the native Carbon gvim for Mac?
The first hit for "mac vim" on Google: http://macvim.org/OSX/index.php
It's beautiful and I use it every day.

Re: So?
You heathen, hast thou not heard of gvim? -
Re:No Mac Version 7
The link from the main MacVIM page is broken, but here is 7.0 for OSX:

Text Editors...
If I'm learning a language (as opposed to working on a project with others), I find I seldom need all the bells and whistles an IDE provides.
I know of two text editors that provide excellent Python integration.
* BBEdit: http://www.barebones.com/products/bbedit/index.sht ml
* Vim: http://macvim.org/OSX/index.php
I like Vim better for two reasons. First, it is slightly cheaper; and secondly it has the words Don't Panic inscribed
in large friendly letters on its cover.
