This is a lie. Texas did not begin "redistricting more frequently." The Texas congressional Democrats blocked redistricting following the 2000 census, leading to court-ordered redistricting. However, the Texas Constitution specifies that redstricting must be done by congress. In calling a special session for the purpose of redistricting, Governor Perry and the legislature was following the Texas Constitution. To omit this fact is to commit manifest dishonesty for the sake of partisan politics.

In that session, Republican did press their advantage to gerrymander Texas congressional districts, just as the Democrats had done every decade they were in charge of Texas. What's good for the goose is good for the gander, and to the victor goes the spoils. There are many things to dislike about gerrymandering, but the Supreme Court has ruled that it is prefectly legal and constitutional as long as its not done for the purpose of racial discrimination. Moreover, the new districts more accurately reflect the voting preferences of Texans as a whole.

Moreover, since when does a slanted piece by an unabashed liberal partisan complaining about the political opposition actually qualify as "stuff that matters"? Oh wait, this is Slashdot, and anything vaguely tech-related that bashes Bush or Republicans gets listed...

Al Gore paused in the entrance and blinked up at four busts over the door, depicting Jefferson, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin and the Marquis de Lafayette. as the CSPAN cameras rolled the veep-elect inquired "who are these guys?" The best part is watching Bill turn and shake his head.

Was Al Gore really the "Father of the Internet"? Well, no. Albert Gore, Junior, was not elected to Congress until 1976, although his father Albert Gore, Senior, was previously a Senator. Junior represented Tennesee's Fourth District in the House of Representatives, then was elected to the US Senate in 1984. Whats the matter? You can dish it out but you can't take it?

Nah, you can call me as many names as you want. Believe me, anything that would come from the likes of you won't bother me a bit. I just found it hypocritical that you thought it was acceptable to call somebody a name in the same sentence you were codemning them for calling name.

The media is republican...The press is overwhelmingly republican there is no disputing that

The only area of media where conservatives have an edge is in the talk radio business. And that is only because nobody listens to liberal talk shows (I mean, all they really do is complain, and who wants to listen to that? Put a liberal in a talk show setting where people call in to debate and that liberal would be completely lost).

As for the rest of the news media (print and broadcast), it is hopelessly slanted to the left. From Peter Jennings calling Bush a coward on 9/11, to Katie Couric calling Reagan an "air head", there is clear bias in the media. CNN Political reporter Judy Woodruff has flat out admitted that she hates George W. Bush and thinks he is a spoiled brat. Thats objective. The NY Times has called Bush the "most anti-civil rights president" yet, despite the fact that he has the most racially diverse cabinet in history. Ted Turner (who used to be the #1 media mogul, up until last week) has been quoted as saying he is a "socialist at heart". Do want to ignore this and still claim there is a republican bias in the media?

Not that you will actually visit these places, but The Media Research Center and Fight The Bias will document on a daily basis the left wing bias in the media today. But I suspect you won't bother to click those links -- its much to easy for you to ignore blatant facts.

Since AOHell acquired Time Warner, I've cut out everything distributed under the combined company's name. CNN, TBS, etc. are deselected from "channels I watch" on my TiVo. (CNN already was, anyway...who needs CNN when you have Fox News Channel? Besides, Ted Turner is evil.) I don't watch their movies anymore (could be painful when the Matrix sequel comes along, but I haven't missed anything else). I don't click the links to CNN, Time, etc. that get posted here and elsewhere. They could go out of business tomorrow and it wouldn't affect anything that I read or watch.

(If the two companies decide to split up in the future (as has been rumored), I'd reconsider. Until then, AOHell isn't getting any of my money. They're worse than Microsoft...at least Microsoft doesn't have a stranglehold on the media.)

This doesn't mean anything. What's been censored? Can you give examples? There is a difference between restraint (withholding details about military deployments) and censorship. Corporations and governments have ZERO censorship power in arena of political speech or the press.

Monitary support of politicians as a means of encouraging support for the corporate political agenda.
Where, who? These are PUBLIC records posted on the web. Post EXAMPLES.

This post is another example of "If you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail." Well, if you are a fundamentalist lefty even the left-leaning press looks like a conservative cabal. It just ain't so.

I understand that Salon had some token conservatives writing for the site but most of the content was directed to a left of center crowd. Not only in the online world but in the broadcast world as well, left of center political discussion and news services tend to be financial failures while right wing media does quite well. The conservative discussion site, Free Republic, constantly rakes in close to $100,000 in donations when it runs its "user pledge drives". Right wing radio talk shows dominate the political airwaves. The only left wing radio I can think of is National Public Radio and it only stays in business because of the US Taxpayer. The "fair and balanced" Fox News (accused of being rightist) in five short years has blown away 20+ year-old CNN (accused of being leftist) in ratings.

Is there something outside the marketability of political orientation that is a factor in this difference in success? Does political orientation give a business an advantage in a Capitalistic society? Or is it that Republicans are just looser with their wallets?

I didn't read the whole article, nor do I intend to. I wondered, skimming over it, how these new "findings" could go against everything that almost every other scientist has produced in the last, what, 20-30 years? What about all of the researchers in all of the countries that supported the Kyoto Treaty??

Welp, it turns out that I won't accept this site as a valid impartial news site, and here is why, first, on this page the following was mentioned. I do not buy that idea that the media is "liberal", and I like it even less when a news company forces itself to go more conservative to somehow balance this out - this type of bias has to be at least as bad as the perecived liberal bias:

But the following bit on this page is what did it for me about this news site - this is a bit too "balanced" for my taste:

Politically speaking, wouldn't a conservative "christ/god's laws" follower be pro-environment, and not pro-business?? What would christ do? Wasn't he a liberal in his time? If you treat your body as a temple, what about your planet? Is the left so right, so threatening, that you need to FIND and MAKE UP stories to combat this false threat? What are you so afraid of? The truth??

Other alternatives have popped up in recent years...in particular, Fox News Channel doesn't have the far-left tilt that infects most other media outlets.

You trust that FAIR gets any of its stories right? They're nothing more than a mouthpiece for lefties...apologists for Dan Rather and his ilk. They tried to skewer Rush Limbaugh a few years back, but failed miserably due to their (typically) poor grasp of the facts. If you really want to get some idea of what the media don't want you to know, I'd suggest the Media Research Center or Accuracy In Media. I suspect that the truth may be a bit too much for you, though.

As for Fox News, I guess the fact that they don't accept as gospel every word from the Democrats and their fellow travelers must make them "members of the vast right-wing conspiracy." I would wear that label myself as a badge of honor, but Fox doesn't want to be known as leaning either way. Those of us on the right might gravitate toward them because the left-wing bias isn't there, but if they were the conservative news outlet that you say they are, what are the odds that they would've hired left-wing apologists such as Geraldo Rivera (as a war correspondent, no less)?

In the clip, Gore is rattling off a list of reasons people should vote for him. The Internet comment is spoken in a blase tone in the middle of a list. Gore is just taking credit due him and saying it badly. People overreacted to it -- as people do.

Well, if you say so. But Uncle Sam's money comes from us. And the top 20 percent of income earners already pay 74 percent of taxes. The bottom 50 percent of income earners pay 5 percent. So you may as well give your wireless Internet device to that homeless man and cut out the middle man. For that matter, the USA already has taxes to fund free Internet access...it's just not called a tax on your phone bill.
