Not worth getting excited about
It is still tethered. It requires cables running to it.
Don't see the point of a web pad that is tied to something.
I'll wait until there's one with at least wireless ethernet support so I can walk around the apartment with it or take it outside. Of course I'll never buy one if it means signing up with the Devil, I mean signing up with AOL.

Re:Is It Just Me?
I don't think so, it's true IBM often come up with good research and technology, but they always seem to fail to take full advantage of it and someone else does.
Of course this is probably all part of IBMs plan to make a killing by thinking clever stuff up and then licensing it to anyone who can afford it.

Re:x86
I don't believe so, now that VIA own Cyrix I think they do all the FABing themselves.

License the technology ?
Will IBM license the technology to other companies ?
AMD used copper before Intel, could they now use SOI before Intel to gain an even bigger advantage ?

Re:Why bother.
I do support the integration of PDAs and MP3 players though.

I just do NOT see...
One day I'll learn to use the preview button.

Why bother.
I just do see why everyone wants to integrate everything together. I don't see this being a logical move, my cell phone should make and recieve calls, it should get my phone numbers using bluetooth from my PDA and it should leave playing music to my MP3 player. Also, I would have thought that the sound quality will not be that great, I mean how many times have you spoken to someone on a cell phone and then face to face and realised how different they sound. This is nothing more than a gimmick just like Casio's MP3 watch. Sure it maybe fun for a few days, but it won't be long before you'll go bac to seperate devices, especially when your phone battery dies in the middle of an important call because you've been playing MP3s all day. For-pay Internet distributed processing.

Re:If only Leonardo knew
Probably - "What's a PDA? Who is G N U Linux?"
Although I expect he'd ask in Italian.

Re:Sometimes I just wonder...
What we really need is an OS for a small device that was written specifically for this, not an OS that is just a cut down version of something else. Right now PalmOS and EPOC32 seem to be the only OS that fill this role.
I'm no expect in handheld devices OS but people tell me that PalmOS does have some problems, although I don't know what.
The modern PDA market is still very young IMO, and I still think that now is not yet the time to buy. Once we have a global wireless network with an always on capability and a decent bandwith, coupled with small easy to use devices with a long battery life, then will be the time to buy.
Right now I am prepared to wait.

Re:The problem with AMD/SMP ....
According to this article at The Register.
http://www.theregister.co.uk/000520-000006.html
We shoud see dual Socket A boards fairly soon, which can only be a good thing.

Re:Competitive?
They should be, I would imagine them to be slightly faser than Celeron IIs and slighty cheaper.
My Webcam -
I hope these will work with SMP
The Duron is likely to take over from the celeron, but it would be so much better if they worked in SMP. I know AMD is working on a SMP chipset, but I hope they don't do an Intel and only make later steppings SMP compliant.
On another point the L2 cache on the Duron seems a little small and I'm concerned it will impact performance. It's not like AMD to make a mistake, but I guess we won't know until some benchmarks appear for the final silicon

Looks cool
Just read the first chapter, sounds great.
But the price is a bit steep, especially once you consider shipping it to Europe.
This sort of thing is just right for an eBook IMHO.

Re:What ever happend to MS agent?
It still exists and is still being developed. Parts of it were used in Office 2K and will probably be in Office 2001 as well.

Dotster is very easy to use IMHO.
