This reminds me...
This reminds me of the section they use to have on Mac OS Rumors* (yes, I used to read them
:-/) called "Dream Machines". Basically it was the kind of thing a 12-year-old would do. This was like 3 or 4 years ago, and they had things like "Quad 900 MHz G5 with 1024 MB ram" and "25 inch monitor". I guess the main difference between that and this is that this is a "dream machine" that could conceivably exist, whereas MOSR's stuff was complete fantasy. And they had it linked right off the home page. Amazing!
* mosr.net is a Mac OS Rumors parody. -
Re:MacJunkie==Troll?
Sorry, I know the situation you're currently in. You see, I too used to be a MOSR victim. Yes, I read all the Mac rumors sites back in the good old days before Steve Jobs took the helm and clamped down on any legit product info. I watched as site after site closed down or started spewing crap, but I didn't know that they were spewing crap for over a year.
Ryan Meader is full of crap. The Mac Junkie site documents in good detail how willing MOSR is to take anything and post it up as from legit sources. My eyes were opened by parody site mosr.net and other sites, and my own critical eye has caught Apple Insider fibbing on occasion, though they seem to be less obsessed with putting something, anything out no matter how blatantly false it is.
If you want legit news, go to Macintouch or MacNN, but don't trust the rumors sites. They haven't had good hit-miss ratios for over 2 years or so, and since they are in the entertainment business, they don't really care. I just regret getting my Dad hooked on the damn site. -
Re:Ryan Meader -- 'Editor' of MacOSRumors
You can get some nice insight into the huge problems with Meader's sight over at http://www.mosr.net/. The problem seems to be that certain Slashdot editors like him, unaware of the gaping holes which appear in his reporting on an alarmingly consistent basis. Perhaps he'll finally be exposed with this latest fabricated story. Apple should sue him for libel. Bongs away!

Re:why pull it, if it is not true?It is no secret that Steve Jobs likes to take potshots at the rumor sites, whther they are true or not. I remember in one speech he said something ot the effect of "If you read the rumors sites you would think that [G4 computers I think] will be available in a few months. It is available today form the Apple Store."
This made me wonder if Apple doesn't "leak" some info just to throw off the rumor-hounds and to make product announcements more spectacular. Showmanship? You bet, but it helps sell computers.
MOSR is "known" for being inaccurate in many cases, but that is part of being in the "rumors" business. Lately MOSR has been more and more careful with readers explaining that rumors are rumors and no one should base any sort of decisions on them until (if) they become fact.
There are those who aren't fans of MOSR though.
BTW, MacSlash has been carrying this story since 7:22 this morning.

MacOS Rumours parody
Over at http://www.mosr.net/
They take Meader down a notch or two, especially when they call him on his BS posts.

Re:MacOS X and Mac Rumor Idiots
I take personal exception to this comment.
I am Ryan Meader, President of Black Light Media Inc. and I would like to point out that not only do we at Black Light Media Inc. get things right mots of the time, we also get them before anyone else.
Who was it that first reported that there would be Apple Country retaliers all over the country? Us - Black Light Media Inc. - that's who.
Who was it that told you about the cool new enclosures of Pismo... Piiiissssmooooo.. PPIIIIIISSSSSSSMOOOOOO AARRGGGHH!!!!!!!!! I'm CUMMMMMMMMMMINGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!
sorry. We at Black Light Media Inc. really like the Pismo and its cool new case design. In fact, we think its better than all of the prevoious Powerbook models.
In short, if you don't stop messing with me, I may be forced to send my girlfriend after you, and we both don't want that. -

A Theory?
OK, I've put together a theory on how this rumor ballooned so wildly out of proportion, so read below if you want my idea.
;-)
Slashdot posted an article that mixed up Connectix's plan to bundle Redhat with their emulator Virtual PC (VPC) with Connectix's Macintosh-only Virtual Game Station (VGS). Before an update could be posted to explain the confusion, MOSR's prestigious Ryan Meader saw the post. Using his common tactics for obtaining information for MOSR, he stole the incorrect information and embellished it with his own lies. (If anyone is feeling like I personally don't believe anything MOSR says, you're right. Please check the archives at http://www.mosr.net/ (the site is now defunct, but as I said, check the archives) if you want to see some very good rebuttals of pure crap/stolen news Ryan has posted.) Anyway, a Slashdot reader who read MOSR saw the story, which corroborated the incorrect story he saw earlier (perhaps he had not reloaded Slashdot to see the update yet) and so he submitted it. It was picked up as a story again at Slashdot because it appeared to lend credence to that same story that was (mistakenly) posted the day before.
Sadly people have submitted MOSR topics before to Slashdot. I would recommend that people don't submit MOSR topics, as well as advising Slashdot that they shouldn't pick up stories like that. ;) Hopefully this will be avoided in the future!
Oh yeah, remember that this is merely a theory, although from my point of view it does seem very likely. :) -
MOSR submits these stories...MOSR probably submits all these wacky stories so that they get Slashdotted and their hits go up. This is a MacOSrumors spoof site, it's quite funny. Take a look at the slide show to see the mastermind behind the BLM Media empire.
Also, I remember there used to be some kind of partnership between BLM and Slashdot, several years ago. Can anybody provide more info? What was lowly Ryan Meader's role in the creation of Slashdot? This is going back at least 2 years.
The only proof I can find (other than my memory of a mention of BLM on Slashdot a couple of years ago) is this page, which has a capture of a MOSR page from December, 1998. Look down at the bottom, it says "For those who don't follow the development of Linux (for those interested, Slashdot is an excellent place for all manner of geek news -- not that we're exactly totally unbiased, as Slashdot is a BLM partner)".
Anybody know anything about this? Maybe this has something to do with the recent stories from MOSR being posted lately... maybe Rob feels bad for Meader, whose site does nowhere near this much traffic. But then again... (funny).

Re:MacOS Rumors: Not Very Credible
Indeed. Mac OS Rumors is rather unusual among the websites I've visited in that it has acquired a nemesis -- www.mosr.net and a dedicated suck-style parody: Mac OS Rumorz. Basically, they occasionally get a thing or two right, but they're more often wrong than right -- much, much more often.
Sometimes the stuff they post is just plain unbelievable -- like a G4 with the FSB overclocked to 133 running a 666MHz G3. Sound plausible? Might, if not for the fact that the "sawtooth" motherboard doesn't have any FSB-adjusting jumpers or any other way to adjust it, and that no one makes G3s with the proper configuration to fit into the wierd socket on that motherboard.
They also one said that their information came from a "secure video feed" from inside Apple headquarters. Excuse me? What the fuck is a "secure video feed"?
Of course, they might well be completely right about this Crusoe business, just because it seems completely sensible as something Apple might do. They might be great for a Sub-iBook with their low power drain, and according to the Arstechnica review of Crusoe, Transmeta is also working on a version that's designed for performance rather than low power use.

Beware of MacOSRumors
For most educated mac users, MacOSRumors is concidered the bottom of the barrel for reliable Macintosh information. They are constantly putting out information that is completely pulled out of the air, i.e., false. For more info about MacOSRumors, try this link.

this is MOSR.com, people
do not believe *anything* on macosrumors! Ryan, the guy who writes it, has literally no fucking idea what the hell he is talking about.
the only reason anyone (who isn't an idiot) reads mosr is to see just how bad it is.
check out mosr.net, it was set up by people who were thoroughly pissed off the shite mosr.com writes. it looks like it isn't being updated anymore, but check out some of the archived stuff - its very funny (in a juvenile way). especially the stuff about ryan's girlfriend... -
Get Real
MacOS Rumors is full of shit. Ryan Meader is an idiot and makes up everything you see on that site (either that or he just rehashes press releases). This is not a troll or flamebait, just the truth.
Check out MOSR Net for good analysis and attacks on Ryan. It's hilarious.
