Re:UI Lag
If you're on 64-bit Windows, you can improve this a bit by using editbin (from the platform SDK) to set the large address aware flag in firefox.exe, increasing the limit to 4 GB. (If you're on 32-bit Windows, this will have no effect unless you also use the
/3gb or /userva kernel flags.)There are unofficial 64-bit builds, as well as ongoing work on official 64-bit Windows builds.

64-bit Firefox on Windows
If you're running a 64-bit version of Windows (Vista x64, etc), then give serious thought to running a 64-bit build of Firefox.
I've found this build to not only be noticably faster, but also infinitely more stable and less of a memory hog.
In terms of numbers, I've had only one crash in the last 8 months, and at the moment, it's using 159MB with 15 tabs open. I've never seen the official 32-bit build perform like that...

Re:Seems pretty clear:
Hey, I said for CAD/CAM and other "heavy lifting" that there was a purpose in having the ludicrous speed, I was just pointing out that for a good 80-90% of the home and SMB markets it is simply overkill as their PCs will be sitting idle most of the time due to the incredible processing power of even the lowest model AMD or Intel dual compared to the work they have for it.
BTW it is a damned shame it takes that long, or else I'd be asking you about compiling a 64bit Songbird. We have a 64 bit Firefox which frankly rocks and having a native 64bit Songbird would probably rock for those of us with large databases. Oh and as far as compiling goes? Obligatory XKCD reference.

Re:Why linux first
You can't get a native 64 bit version of firefox/IE at the moment, so there's no need for 64bit flash....
Modded Insightful? Really?
So why is there this "Internet Explorer (64-bit)" icon on every 64bit version of Windows?
There is also this link with 64bit builds of Mozilla products: http://wiki.mozilla-x86-64.com/Download

Re:Firefox Replacement
http://www.mozilla-x86-64.com/ has also been using "Minefield" as the name for their x64 variant of Firefox since at least v2 (when I first started using it).

Not quite built for Windows x64...
If you're running Windows x64, there aren't any native RC2 binaries available yet. However, you can check out this site for Deer Park Alpha 2 (latest) binaries and information on how to build your own Windows 64-bit Firefox-ness from source.

(Or, of course, you can just use the 32-bit version, but that's no fun.) -
Re:NX On by Default?I had the XP64 beta, and NX bit was *on* by default for everything.
I have the XP x64 release (MSDN version), and NX defaulted to opt-in ("Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only" in MS terminology).
I changed it to opt-out, and the only incompatibility I've seen so far is the QuickBooks 2005 CD autorun thing. Firefox 32-bit and 64-bit both work fine.
